Bungie has always had references to their past games in the games they create. (For Example- 343Guilty Spark shape/Marathon).

Question . . . Since they no longer have proprietary rights over the Halo universe, will they be allowed to reference anything Halo related in their future ip's?

@spaboolly

Developers include references to other games all the time... I doubt they actually need the rights to it in order to make a reference, as long as they're not using specifically copyrighted material.

And I'd like to think Microsoft would be fairly lenient in letting Bungie put a little nod to their (thus far) greatest creation in their next game. But that might be giving them too much credit....

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Didn't Duke Nukem have "Halo power armor"?

I don't think Bungie will have problems, but Activision has to approve it.

I hope so . . . It's fun to see how they reference their past creations.

Activision has to approve it.
I can't imagine Bungie needing preapproval to put something so trivial in their game; and I don't see Activision actually caring, so long as the end product is marketable.

It is in their contract, the one that was leaked.

Then could you provide a specific quote that supports your claim?

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

Exactly, as far as we know Bungie and 343 have a strong friendship. I doubt there would be any problems with some Halo references.

I'm looking forward to more employee Easter Eggs.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Yes they will, I am certain of it.

You can make something look like something else without directly copying it over. That's generally what they did in Halo, made things look like things from their prior games.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

It would proboly be approved to in some way pay homage to past games. Easter eggs don't have to be blatanly obvious so it wouldnt have to be a big deal.
