All in all, Bungie.net has been a wild ride, and it will continue to be for years to come. Even in darkness this place is an absolute riot. From the Flood to the Community to Private groups, There's always something to talk about, someone to argue with, and ways to be trolled. I'll get my group shoutouts out of the way right now; The WorkPLace, Mythic Members, Bnet Regulars, CMWKA, YANW, Deltas Dungeon, Dead Mans Hand, and The Darkest Corner. Without these private groups to lurk and post in, I don't think I'd still be around.
At first these forums were just a place to talk about Halo. Eventually I was able to join a few custom games with members, trying to get golden warthogs or lure 'mega hunters' out of some weird piece of geometry on Coagulation (that was a complete waste of 3 hours, by the way). As soon as halo 3 launched, though, something happened.
The first step into truly appreciating this community was becoming a part of a sub-community. I was lucky enough to be accepted into Halo 3 in The WorkPLace after a good thrashing in Big Team Battle. The months after were a crash course in new friendships. With such a tight nit group of people, It was easy to get to know everyone. Especially when playing nightly games. As the group kept expanding, the amount I came to this website increased.
It was then that I began thinking about the people on the other side of usernames, as well as participating more in The Flood, Halo 3, Optimatch and Community Forums. As for The Flood and Community, It's been nice watching them grow in their own ways. The Flood has quite a few frequent members that actually post serious threads that make you think, aside from bringing news stories to the eyes of those who may never see them depending on their location in the world. At first glance, You may just think it's a jumbled mess of Random threads. To be honest, you're entirely right! I do implore you, take some time to actually scroll through the threads. You'll definitely find some gems in there.
With the Community, just wow. Chorrizo is an awesome example of how this forum in particular is crazy; I honestly hadn't seem him post until a certain intoxicated thread of mine. At PAX 2012, He went out of his way to fulfill something he had said; "You deserve a cookie". This man, from the internet, gave me a physical cookie, without actually knowing who I was. Now look at him, Posting a weekly community centric thread! You really can find people with genuine passion for this place in the most random places. (Note; I do not condone taking candy or delicious cookies from strangers unless you're 21 and don't mind being duct taped by moderators of an online gaming forum)
Last thing I'd like to throw out there; PAX is an eye opener. Really, ANY sort of real life interaction with other members is amazing. Private groups and main forums will gain you friendships and people to play with... but meeting people in person is a whole new ball game. The ODST truck tour actually introduced me to ibmeubu, Psychotex, and Funpag. These men of the SoCal region are some of the most respectable people I've ever had the honor to meet. Following that event, PAX 2010 and PAX 2012... Words cannot express how amazing those weekends were.
Dearest reader, while I can't pay for your airfare or gas... I beg you to get out there and actually meet some of these amazing folks of the Bnet forums. Be safe, but don't be too scared to throw your hand out for a shake and introduce yourself. You will meet incredible people. You will gain the best of friends. You will never regret the laughter, tears of joy, fistbumps or shots of DeadSnakeSake.
Shoutouts; DeeJ and Urk - Thanks for being kickass Community Managers.
The WorkPLace - For everything you guys have done over the past 3+ years
Bungie.net as a whole - For being awesome and growing into something beautiful over the past near 8 years
All the moderators - For keeping us bluebars tame.
Random buds - Anelf, Scapegoat, Helveck, Spudster, Skibur, Halo53, Primo84, Topgun, and Primum.
Last but not least, shoutout to DeathPimp. You may be gone, but you really were one of the greatest guys I got to meet through this website. Thanks for the good times, And we'll always miss you. R.I.P. (m)
