Subject: What is Lasky's role in the new Halo 4?

What exactly is his role? So, from what I know I can kind of assume that he is on board the Inifinity. Is he your average-joe marine then or a Spartan IV or what?

He's a CO on the Infinity I believe. I might be wrong though.

The way they've set him and Del Rio up in The Thursday War, I wouldn't be surprised if something catastrophic eventually happens to the captain and Lasky ends up assuming command.

I haven't read the Thursday war, could you go into a bit more detail about how Del Rio and Lasky are connected???

The way Thursday war says it, if Lasky wanted to stage a mutiny, He'd succeed WITH NO OPPOSITION.

Basically, Del Rio is an 'okay' captain, but holds no awe/loyalty/respect from his crew.

Lasky = Parangosky's favored/chosen head on infinity.

It doesn't STATE that Del Rio is incompetent or pathetic as a captain, it just implies it. (Or he prefers to play things safe)

No! No!

If they go this route it has to be Linda or Parisa. In fact, Parisa would have more of a story impact if she was in Palmer's place.

Explain this to me. If Del Rio is just average, why isn't Lasky in command? Shouldn't the Infinity have the best captain available? If Parangosky favours Lasky, why isn't he Captain Lasky and Del Rio the XO?

Because (Traviss decides ONI = awesome and UNSC = dumb) UNSC and Lord Hood put Del Rio in charge.

Lasky hated him because Del Rio wouldn't (IIRC) fold to her whims. And she figured Lasky as XO would still give her the wanted amount of influence.

Actually, it was more like Del Rio was given command because at the time basically a week before the events of Thursday War, the Infinity was still being contructed and was nothing more than a technology demonstrator.

With all the new technology on board, and with it being the size of a city, the Admiralty wanted the ship to be in the hands of a battle tested and capable Captain that the knew wouldn't play hero with their new flagship. Since a sizable amount of ONI funding went into the ship, but the rest was financed by the Fleet, they had to make a decision.

Parangotsky being who she is, wanted the best tactician available on their biggest asset, thinking in a more tactical sense than of the asset the Infinity was to the rest of the fleet. Deciding to pick her battles however, she requested Lasky be the XO instead, which is actually in the best interest of the crew of a ship anyway. Generally the CO is a person who earned their rank, does paperwork, and follows orders. The XO is your friend in the officer's group who can take time to know the enlisted crew.

Del Rio isn't a bad captain, just a respectable and cautious one. He's obviously a better ship driver than most, having survived the war and not died via directly charging a Covenant fleet like 90% of the Reach defense forces. However, he's just doing his job and that's all. His crew will follow him, but he isn't the inspiring hero ala Preston Cole or Jacob Keyes.

Lasky on the other hand was a fighter pilot first, so likely has more experience with enlisted folks due to the ones who maintained his fighter. He has the leader's charisma that inspires people to follow him.

But yeah, I feel like Del Rio is likely to get royally owned and Lasky will become the CO of Infinity

If 343 are anything like Bungie, they will find a way to obscure the screen and ruin the moment (if ya know what I mean *hint*Halo 2 ending, Halo 3 Cortana moments, Kat*hint*).

So Del Rio is the George McClellan of the UNSC?

He's a supporting character, I don't think it's a spoiler to say that he trusts the Chief more than anyone after the events of Forward Unto Dawn. I actually liked his character in that series, and in what I've seen of the game so far.

Brains beats brawn get used to it

Fear the Red Comet

Variety is the spice of life.
Long live games.
Death to all fanboys.

Del Rio was chosen by fleet, and from the sounds of it his by the book nature was likely a plus in the sense that it would ensure no creative "liberties" are taken by those under ONI's belt. Course...it still didn't stop ONI from undermining Del Rio and Hood anyway.

Judging from how much praise 343i's new star Lasky gets in the novel for being the ideal officer it wouldn't be surprising if Del Rio gets replaced. Not to mention notice how in the new Spartan Ops trailer it's Lasky overseeing things from the bridge of the Infinity rather than being at Del Rio's side. Hell Del Rio doesn't even look like he's present on the bridge, and SO takes place six months after Halo 4.
