Halo1's physics engine was too much for Halo2, Halo2's physics engine was flawed....so what's going to happen this time around?

To Make Posts is Glorious

Some threads will get posts before others and it is the duty of the Leadership to ensure that posts are made that best suit the public welfare.

"heh"

Actually, Halo 2 was going to have it's own custom physics engine. But they ran out of time, and the Xbox couldn't run it, so they used a below average HAVOK physics engine.

I hope Halo 3's physics engine will be the 'original' Halo 2 engine, but who knows.

“We are the Mirratord. We strike with speed and stealth. Our enemies will not see their deaths. They will not know their fate. In darkness, we will see light. In light, we will see darkness. No matter the location, we will see victory. If we fail, no one will know. Like a ghost, our presence is a mystery. For the honor of the Mirratord" Join the Mirratord here

well, also the swords "lunge" screwed up the physics and they had to change the engine, this time the physics engine looks alot more improved

"I'm hungry..."

I can't wait to push things off of stuff and watch them interact realistically with other stuff!!!!

yeah, the physics were crap.

you couldnt push a box yourself, but you could push the same box with another, specific box? WTH?

I hope it's like Half-Life 2 so I can pick up a can and throw it at a grunt's face.

No No No...don't blame the engine if the problem only exists in MM. And it isn't the engine, it's the engine's settings, there's a huge difference.

All of the physics can be given a different #value, so if you have a problem with the #value that was assigned, then your problem isn't the engine at all.

The engine is fine, and quite frankly would take more than a year to create any significant improvement over the existing engine.

If what you really want is for the #values to match your expectations, then you need to explain whether your talking about MM or Campaign.

If you're talking about MM, then you're SOL until Bungie explains what they've done to configure the matches, then you could explain how the physics don't match your expectations and Bungie could determine whether it should be expected based on how they've configured MM.

For half of us, the shotgun and melees don't work consistently. Bungie still hasn't given us an official answer. Many say it's because of lag, but that doesnt explain why it happens to the host, to people on the same xbox, or to people on the same LAN.

The physics in Halo 2 weren't done terribly, and they were a huge leap over the slippery crap was was in the first game.

However, companies like Havok do specialize in software-run physics engine solutions, and I think it would be wise for Bungie to work with them again. Havok physics power Valve's Source engine which runs Half-Life 2, after all.

It's all in how you use the tools and resources that you're given, and what sort of a range of creative freedom and environmental interactiviy you're specifically aiming for. I hope Bungie goes all out this time.
