This guy has it down. Instead of stepping out into the unknown. Make it to where the user can choose what kind of gametype they want to play. Not just slayer or sniping or what not. But the stage and scenio they want to play. If someone is interested they will jump right in. If your open for anything and you like surprises, put it on random. And you will join whatever is open.

I understand, kind of similar to how system link is currently. The only problem with that is getting enough players to join your game because everyone will be creating their own custom game. I believe that's why Bungie decided to make match-making game-types though. To find the best possible match for your connection and level. Otherwise, unless you have everyone you want already in your party, you'll be sitting there waiting for people to join your game. Then when you finally get some, they quit, then you wait again. I don't know if you ever used XBC but that is why I switched to Xbox Live, getting a decent game.

Do you guys think my bot idea is a bit unfair...? There must be a way to balance it; they'd be too strong at higher ranks...

Right but the biggest problem is CHOICE. The user needs to have more possibilities. Maybe put out what gametype is popular at the moment. So the user can join a game quicker

I'm don't think that fits this thread Vitamin.
But the bots replace the quitters in a match.

Aahh, I see. My bad, I didn't read your earlier posts sorry. Well, it sounds plausible. But, I believe the level-matched bots make it a bit to complicated. If this would be incorporated then it would need to be a standard level bot. It needs to function on a standard based on the AI of campaign NPCs.

What if you have to go somewhere for a long period of time? What if your mother dies? What if you have to go out with your girlfriend? I'd rather go out with my girlfriend than play Halo.

I don't see why people are complaining so much. It's just a game. If you lose some matches time still exists. Apples still are round. I'm still fluffy.

If you need to leave your house, then you can just turn off your Xbox. If you're just quitting so that you can find a new game, then you'd have to go through the inconvenience of turning off your Xbox and turning it back on, but if you're going to leave your house, then you'd be turning it off, anyway (probably).

Like the feedback system that doesn't work? :(

The feedback system does work. I got banned for having a modded hard drive because of bad feedback, and I wouldn't have gotten banned if I didn't have a modded hard drive or if I didn't recieve feedback. By the way, I'm not admitting to cheating; I'm admitting to modding.

Quitting wouldn't be a problem if the game were based on servers.

That's heresy! Servers usually mean extra cash to play online every month (i.e. MMORPGs). Death to the Unbelievers!

The servers could be hosted by the actual hosts. They don't necessarily have to be dedicated.

I did say usually mind you. But take a sec and just think of how many people are on at anyone given time. Plus, the fact that unless you are jobless there is a 1-2 hour window that anyone is on at any given time. It would be simpler (or more simple.... either way) to have dedicated servers.

just make it a bigger penelty to quit. like go down a level or 2

Posted by: SatanInASweater
Why does everybody think that lowering people's stats for leaving is a punishment? It's only a punishment for people who have a strange relationship with their level, and people that think that it's a good punishment also probably have an unnatural relationship with their rank.

Anyway, I just think that people shouldn't be forced to play through annoying games. What if somebody's modding? Do you have to sit through that? What if you're doing really badly and you don't want your team to lose because of you? Will you be discouraged from leaving in that scenario? It's just a very flawed idea. Maybe if Bungie didn't make you play the games that they want you to play, people wouldn't quit all of the time.

Good point, they could probably do this now if they wanted to. Have 50 xboxes hosted by XBL running specific custom games where people can join anytime. It would probably only work with slayer type games though.

No quitting?
What if i had to go take a -blam!-.

That is why I moved my xbox and tv into my bathroom, so I can be ready to take a -blam!- and never have to get up from my seat.

Quitters shouldn't be able to restart another *ranked* matchmade game untill the one they just quit out of finishes. Obviously this only includes matchmaking and wouldn't effect custom games. There should also be some tally or record in the players history showing their frequency for quitting.

People that quit just because they don't like the map or gametype need to be punished for ruining matchmaking for everyone else. Waiting for another 10 mins before they can start another game might make them think twice.

That sounds like a good idea. If they're quitting because they have an issue to deal with, then they won't care, while the people who quit because they don't like something about the game will have to pay the price.

why not make a BTB game that never ends, so to speak, just let people jump in and out at anytime, that way they can kill, grab flags, plant bombs drive vehicles around while waiting for thier friends to jump on.

I suggested that several weeks ago. I think that would be one of the sweetest features they could implement into Halo 3

I suppose it could be a difficult technical feat however novel

*also... on the 360 there is what they call "Rep". There are many types of feedback that are now displayed on an individuals "feedback card".. if you will. One of those types - quitting.
If only quitters preferred a 360 for some odd reason...

Then why are you playing Halo at that point in time then? And if you do go out, just turn off your xbox.

Of course everyone has a right to quit. However, the people who like to finish their games and who like to have full teams while they do it should not be subject to the whims of serial quitters. What we should do is segregate people who quit regularly and have them matched with each other, leaving those of us who only quit when we need to to have fully populated games.
