Let's hoping the Forerunner are the 'forgive and forget' type, that is, and focus on the current situation at hand if they still exist somewhere. Otherwise, I'd think they'd be royally pissed. Wouldn't you be pissed as much as the next person if your whole race died to stop an enemy, which the Flood still exists under containment, only to have later generations(i.e. Covenant) loot the remains(which probably wasn't meant for them), desecrate and destroy their installations, and cause another whole galactic mess with the Flood? If the Forerunner are pissed enough and regained to the power of what they once lost, I bet they'd use their u3er weapons to wipe out Covenant and humans alike. If the Forerunner are comparable to "god", then that's "god's" wrath on the "sinners".
I definately think there were Forerunner survivors. A race as intellegient and advanced as the Forerunner would not just create a weapon to cause mass suicide on a galactic scale without something to save them, at least. Then we hear of "an Ark". 343 Guilty Spark thinks MC was the Forerunner who activated Halo(see below). And I think the Delta Halo structures are proof. Someone has to be alive to build a memorial cathedral-like tribute and what seems to be a mausoleum and exhibit over a previous battlefield to honor the fallen. Someone has to be alive to contain the Flood(such as the Quarantine Zone). Granted, the Sentinels could've built the Sentinel Wall, but still. Those ruins...
I'm thinking there might be a Forerunner alive somewhere. Maybe the last of his kind, in a armor suit very similar to MC's suit awakened to fight the Flood once more.
