Lt. Dan I brought you some ice cream. Lt. Dan.. ice creaaam!

I don't know if there's already a thread on this, but I have noticed that a few words, which in my opinion are not offensive when used in the right context, are blocked.

When refering to history, N*zi is blocked.
When refering to someone's orientation or to biology (i.e h*mosapien, and h*mos*xual)

I think it should be a moderator's job to judge for himself wheather a post is designed to flame people or just used for discussion, rather than just block it because some users may be offended by it. Any thoughts on mabey changing this?

Filter is an old one Microsoft required Bungie to use. They simply haven't changed it yet.

I assume Bnext will have a new filter.

Break down, every single one of you.

This subject has been addressed countless times before. These are some reasons why your idea can be used efficiently:

1) Moderators aren't on the site all the time, so they aren't always there to correct every misuse of the word.

2) Most people use such words to flame or troll. Very few use them for their intended purpose. This is the internet. No one is nice here.

3) The Bungie.net team did not decide what words would be filtered. They took the code from another source. It would probably take a lot of time to find where the code that filters each word is and change it. They only thing they changed was that the censored word would say -blam- instead.

Yes but if someone gets offended they can hit the report button and it will eventually be addressed. It's not like everyone will die because they see a word they might see as offensive to them.

Still, it is better to make preemptive measures. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as they say.

Not to mention Bungie doesn't trust the community to act mature with such things.

The general population of the forums isn't very interested in using those words, at least, not maturely. "WW2 German national socialist" is blocked because of Goldwin's law. You could say "human" instead of using the "biological" word. And I don't see that last word being used constructively or without any sort of repercussion; there are quite a few immature users here and it's a controversial word (it's closely related to politics and to some, religion, both subjects against the rules for commonly starting heated arguments).

That's not what I'm trying to say. There are some words which are just shocking to see they are blocked out.

I essentially do, but it's me retyping it each time. It's not even worth the effort to save something like that.

the only problem i have with mine is that it's unstable,[very shakey],so you'd need a tripod for it.

'twas an old MSN filter list if my memory serves me correctly, but I'm not sure if Bungie were required to use it, I can't remember.

On the topic of words that shouldn't be on there, I propose that the word starting with the letter, C, and ending with UM be removed. It has ruined many of my attempts at writing things in Latin.

-blam!- metu vito, sub DeeJ doesn't quite have the same effect
