I just played the New Kameo Demo that had a massive battle that sorta put Halo 1 & 2 to shame when it comes to having 100+ enemies on the map at one time. I've played a couple of the massive battle customs for Halo PC which were awsome. I'm sure with some careful design, it could be done without crashing the system. Even if it were 100+ spartans fighting the arbiter with an energy sword, it would still be pretty cool.

Imagine the Master Chief crashing onto a covenant ship where an entire legion is assembeled in formation...all of the grunts and jackals run off screaming, but the 100+ elites close in?

100 Spartans vs the Arbiter? Yeah that would be REAL cool.

*start*

Spartan: BAM BAM....
Arbiter: *Thud*

*end*

That would be really cool. Maybe a final stand at the Ark?

Halo does not take place during the Mediaeval times.

This would only work if it was A: trench warfare (Which would be a confusing addition to Halo) or B: long range guerilla warfare. The type of battles like you see in Lord of the Rings is not a war tactic practiced since the civil war started. Advanced weapon fire would be fatal against such a force.

I disagree, there were several times in H2 that showed large formations of covenant troops. So it would work outside a trench warfare scenario. Honestly how can you have an epic struggle/battle/war...without a huge battle?

At this point, I'd hardly say that any of the battles have been huge. The closest was in halo 1, on that giant ice field just before you destroyed the final control room.

Also, the concept of large battles fought in a space genre is what Halo CE was all about. At least at the time, it was the largest battle you could get with amazing graphics that didn't crash your system.

I would like to play a level similar to the opening of Silent Cartographer, but on a much larger scale.

there still are energy swords vs shotgun.....warthog vs spectre....covenant space fleet vs UNSC space fleet...marines vs elites...

so there could be kind of a charge through the covie lines.......

I agree, I want another tropical island where you can drive into the water without dying.

Honestly, you could tell that the maps in H1 had a lot of geographical substance to them. It was like they sacrificed less maps for more detail in the maps. Honestly, I didn't mind going over the maps more than once because they were high quality. I don't think Bungie thinks like this anymore, so they've fallen prey to the more is better concept.

Kameo is amazing, but go back to the original Xbox, spartan: total warrior could have up to 170 enemies and allies (adding too 340 enemies) on the screen at once, and thats the original xbox.

"We always wanted to have that epic feel and now, with the Xbox 360, we finally have the technology to make that happen."

I think we could expect one or two large scale battles. There were supposed to be a few in Halo:CE actually, but the got cut due to budget restraints.

1000+ covie's are approaching,
Sgt. Johnson says to the chief, "I need a distraction"
MC spots a nearby warthog,

After it's over, a private says "If he can kill that many doing parking lot donuts, what'd they need us for? Just hire a gang of cybernetic hoodlums." Another private says, "I wish I knew that'd be a freek'n combat manuver, I bet I could take out a battle cruiser with a can of spray paint and a roll of toilet paper."

Does anyone know whether the same people that designed H1, were the same that designed H2, and whether they will also be designing H3? I only ask because it seems that H2's maps were more like every other game that's out there. Campaign was very linear with NO REPLAY VALUE!!! At best, adding skulls created CHEAP replay value, forcing you to replay. How many people played H1 over any over again? Why? There were no cheesy skulls, just really good maps with lots of action. It did become linear, but only after a LONG while.

I just hope that all of Bungie's new employees aren't trying to bring the failures of their games with them. For all we know, hitting a grunt on the head is going to make 50 gold coins pop-out.

You know, the idea of a massive battle doesn't sound bad to me...I mean, if you've read the book, you know the covies sent grunts by the thoulsands as cannon fodder. Just imagine being in a UNSC base...watching the incredible numbers of enemies comming towards you...then at once opening up on them and letting all hell lose.

Seriously, to me that idea rocks.

Even more if there are vehicles.

I don't think the system could handle 100 enemies on top of allies and what not, too much at once, maybe for a game without so much detail, but not Halo 3

like defend the bunker with 15 other dudes against infinite covenant

  • 06.29.2006 8:23 PM PDT

I believe it could handle it. That might be one of the biggest advancements we have coming in H3. I say that if they don't have to sacrifice anything as far as gameplay, make the maps as big as possible. Put as many enemies out there as possible. I want to see those huge maps!

if a game like Spartan total warrior can handle over a hundred on an xbox then the XBOX360 sure as hell could handle at least a hundred detailed enemies on screen.

Yes, but there wasn't 100+ enemies doing combat. They were shown in cutscenes, but that is where it kind of ended. Plus, the battles were stale because every single different type of character was the SAME model (very stale and too-perfect looking).
