Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

......never before had i seen such unity in a thread........

I don't mean this in a cruel way, but most of that unity came about from 5 or 6 people posting back and forth to each other for 20 pages with bits and sprinkles of random others thrown in the mix.

Why does one need a title to describe how one acts on a particular forum? How does this actually benefit the community?

It allows us to form pre-conceived ideas of who people are by thier titles. That way, we can use our Bungie.net stereotypes to decide if we like or dislike someone before we even talk to them.

And the benefit is... where? If anything it's just ripping apart the community at the seams with prejudice and generalisation.

I was being sarcastic.

But I have to make sure of these things at 1 am. >_>

Well this could work, but then people would choose whatever they wanted not what they were.

You could let other memebrs choose via Karma system.

Labels are a horrible idea...you won't see me with a pink triangle or star of David on my chest just for your neato organizing and stereotyping ideals. No Thank You Sir.

In that case I'll take the label of Troll. Thanks.

how nice. Maybe I could label you something stupid to. You've voiced your opinion people will see it. Maybe next time you do make it slightly nicer to the idea and people will care what you think.

Iceman: This isn't your thread in the Halo 3 forum anymore, this is somebody else's thread in The Septagon where people take things seriously since this is the place where members can actually have their ideas taken into consideration.

Even though its my idea?

LoL, to be honest I was skeptical about RF LooseWires posting this cuz I was afraid this would happen. I can handle a discussion with the average forum goers, but a moderator? This is like walking through a mine field........

Well, dmbfan, my intent was to just put somethin out there to maybe lighten the mood of the H3 forum. I mean, that place really is a warzone out there. Repeated threads, flames, constant arguing............that thread I made was just friendly reminder of what we've all become. I mean you can't deny that you DO have people who only make funny comments, people who argue all the time, people who just stay there all the time, etc.

Would I like to see this kind of thing in the forum? I dunno, sure. There are probably lots of people who may like "intellectual" by their name, or maybe "comedian". Just something to give you a sense of ' identity ' in a sea of thousands of posters. If you would rather go by "member" then so be it. No one will force you. But it was just something to think about....is all.

All I'm trying to say is that this isn't the Halo 3 forum anymore and people are now taking this seriously and not as something to just "lighten the mood". Stop telling people "it was just a joke"; because even if that was your original purpose, it is not the purpose anymore.

And don't worry about getting into discussions with moderators. We're just members like yourself and we only "take action" when a rule is broken. You are allowed to disagree with us, that isn't against the rules.

Moderators are pretty cool guys, unless there not a guy, then there prett cool girls.

Yes, this "joke" actually turned out to ba a good idea. In my opinion anyways. It could be helpful to private groups also. They could have closed membership and only let people with certain ones in your group, or even filter them for having bad ones that you don't like.

Go to your room!

...Well I'm glad that worked, because those would have been terrible last words.

Forum User classifications = Almost as bad as an idea as a karma system.

If you want to see why having "the masses" rate things (such as the validity of another member...) is a bad idea, have a read of this guys take on it.

You know what you could do is have a total post number beneath users name - some forums do this. I don't' know what it would help but I see as a primary classification of poster: is this person brand spanking new and created an account today at 10:00 am to retort anonymously against someone who got the better of them?

So a group of 104 people could gang up and basically rule a forum. Interesting...

not this forum though. They'd be over mobbed by the other 1.8 million users.

I agree, I'd love to see a post counter

not a post counter. it would just reinforce the fact that I am on bungie way to much. especially if it included posts in private groups.

But it could also show the hardcore dedication for Halo users. Just because you believe you waste too much time on b.net doesn't mean others shouldn't get a post counter. Get over your denial and you'll realize that post counters totaLLy rockS.

A post counter should not count posts within a private group unless you guys want to go balls to the wall and make the In-group counters only display in-group.

I'd love it.

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

I'd rather not have people walking around saying,

"Well, I'm a dedicated user, so STFU flamer!"

These ranks would just tear the community into factions and cliche's which would struggle with each other to prove which one is better, when in reality they're all part of the same group.
