Don't even get me started on disappearing weapons in SpOps. If I die holding a weapon, it's gone by the time I reach my body. If I drop something to pick up a power weapon, it's gone by the time that power weapon is empty. Things disappear while I look at them. It's ridiculous.
Yep. Terrible.

That stuff wasn't too frequent in Halo 3 or Reach. And it never happened in CE or Halo 2.

  • 12.24.2012 6:23 AM PST

It happened to me fairly frequently in Halo 2, but it was more random than anything else. And of course the weapons and bodies falling through the elevators.

Maybe it's a Xbox thing. If you pick up a weapon in Halo 2 Vista campaign, it never disappears (I've had Tartarus deload/Elites stop spawning because of this).

Xbox version is so much better.

The bugs in Vista are so horrific. Plus it's based on the TU so there's no long distance sword flying.

I guess anything's better than Halo 4.

Today I wanted to try out a different setup for the 8 snipers easter egg on Requiem. But I screwed up. The lack of checkpoints makes setup work in vain. What's worse is that the crates you get from doing this easter egg are 1) glitched and 2) contain standard variety guns that you find later in the level.

IWHYBD beats this 20x in customization and variety. 8 Zealot snipers is just a cheap challenge... oh wait hardly a challenge. 28 Ultras were more scarier.

This is CE Elite AI:

Elite Stealth: careful movement, rare firing
Elite Major: very dodgy, short accurate bursts
Elite Zealot: very fast movement, long accurate bursts, berserking, jumping
Elite Spec Ops: very fast movement, short accurate bursts, grenade throwing, never berserking, took cover when it's shield wasn't even low

The Elites are distinct.

This is Halo 2 Elite AI:

Elite Major: the basis for pretty much every Elite rank. Often stands in place firing, seeks cover when shield is gone
Elite Ultra: based on Major, but can pull out a sword, style = berserking
Elite Ranger: based on Major, style = flying and jumping
Elite Zealot: based on Major, but always spawns with a sword, style = can't use vehicles, seek cover sooner than other Elites
Elite Spec Ops: based on Major, style = throwing grenades
Elite Honor Guard: reskinned Major
Elite Councilor: reskinned Ultra
Elite Stealth: based on Elite Minor, has incredibly fast shield recharge rate, style = sneaky

The Elites are distinguished by a few differences.

This is H4 AI:

Elite: every single one of them spams grenades, can use the same guns, they're all pretty much reskins. Besides Rangers, only Zealots are unique because they use an AA
Knight: only distinguished by a single unique ability (besides AAs)

There's really no variety.

H-4 Elites "Suck a mighty hodgie," as my dad would say. (He's almost 70, and invented/appropriated the word "hodgie," and feel free to use it...) Yeah. H-4 Elites are indistinguishable, except for the goldies, who are just irritating. Is sad what the Covenant have become.

Best summary!

The day the Generals are gone and Zealots take their rightful place, that will be when I start playing Halo the way it was meant to be played. Until then, I will glitch it to death mercilessly.

As if 4 didn't suck enough, I just got jacked on an achievement. Episode 5, Chapter 1...got it, no achievement. Every Halo has been so solid so far. But Microsoft's baby effed me on this one. Nice work, @#$%bags ! My faith in the franchise is even more tenuous... Cutscenes that leave me teary eyed are great...but how about making the game work right...

It's been 2 months and there's not been a single word about Campaign. Nor has been there any mention of balancing Spartan Ops for Solo.

Oh yeah, M$ is really pushing it.

Exploration - severely limited
Easter eggs - extremely lame
Theater - dead
Skull hunting - dead
Incentive - dead

Wish I could agree with you but after seeing Reach's speedruns, tricks, and easter eggs, I cannot help but say it's better than Halo 4.

  • 01.04.2013 9:15 AM PST

You'd be more accurate saying it isn't worse for tricking.

Maybe it's a Xbox thing. If you pick up a weapon in Halo 2 Vista campaign, it never disappears (I've had Tartarus deload/Elites stop spawning because of this).

This is because the Xbox has a "Max FPS policy". Its a silent rule enforced so that the Xbox doesn't lag in any games, and why devs go to painstaking lengths to ensure their games don't lag. The PC, on the other hand, can do whatever.

While it is a pain (the despawn counter in H4 is 14 SECONDS, and its obvious its like that to cover for the ridiculous power weapon spawns in multiplayer), it also gets devs to make sure they don't muck up their game. On the PS3, BLOPS 2 has significant frame rate issues with later rounds of its zombie mode. This lag is non-existent on the Xbox.

Sadly this fail safe you bring up (and I never knew about) means it's much harder to overload maps in the newer campaigns. :/

And yeah, the weapons disappear way too quickly in H4. They ought to at least disappear when I'm not looking instead of when I'm inches from them.

Thank you.
I'm literally pressing the button to swap for them & they're gone.
And could they please make grenades a little less available ?
(Not that sticking is physically possible in the game...These enemies have the widest legspans in the history of the universe...let's not even mention the chicanery that goes on in Spartan Ops... At least Campaign is vaguely consistent.)

What house has a rocket pod, has legs, and has a long narrow barrel that probably shoots something powerful?

Sounds like you're describing the lower half of my body, actually.

Exploration. The feeling that you landed on something very alien like, like the first time you stepped on Halo. Damn just thinking about that makes me want to play the campaign again.

Too bad, Halo 4 didn't do that. You instead dropped into something very plain, all the way through orange and/or grey(except for that avatar. Oops I mean forest level), then you had all the help from Infinity. Is it just me or do the campaign levels seem linear? That QTE at the end was very anti-climatic. I hope that Bungie won't do anything stupid like that in Destiny.

Honestly, the third person shots in the vidocs and trailers made it out to be better than it actually is. Requiem is quite dull. You walk out of the cave and see that Forerunner tech in the distant than you turn and come across a bunch of hideous rocks.

Campaign NEEDS Theater to be truly wonderful. I feel trapped. :'(

Edit: you dare attribute dullness to my likeness?! :o

Btw I still have that request of yours in mind. It might take me a while to get it on film since I don't got a capture device atm.
