Don't judge a book by its cover, unless it has bacon on the cover, then it is a good book.

On a more serious note, tonight officially marks the end of an era. 10 years ago Bungie gave us one of the greatest games of all time. In 2007 they ended the story of Master Chief, gave us a nice filler called ODST and IMO a brilliant game called Reach (*zips flame suit). Well tonight at 12 A.M. millions of gamers will be picking up the new Halo 4. Some will be halo ancients who have been around since the beginning and some will be new generation gamers just discovering Halo and all its glory.

No matter which one you are, 12 A.M. marks the end of an era. A Halo game comes out and Bungie's name is not on it. While they are moving on to bigger and better things, lets take a moment to reflect on some of our fondest Halo moments Bungie has brought us. What has made your jaw drop? what has sent chills up your body?

For me, the whole Halo 2 campaign was amazing, the level where you have to kill the Heretic is something I am not likely to forget anytime soon. So Bungie Community, it is your turn, what was the best memory from your Halo/Bungie experience?

Funny, I thought the Bungie Halo era ended last year with the handover.

technically speaking yes. You know what I mean though

Thanks for the kind words, T1d3.

However, at Bungie, we are far more interested in the beginnings of eras than we are in the ends of them.

Not much really changes tonight. Bungie is still here. We still make games we want to play. Halo is still a good game - or at least that seems to be the case.

And, the Bungie Community will be a passionate mob who loves to engage in heated debate about all things game-related - and otherwise. It will be interesting to see what you have to say about this game, and to play it with you. Above all else, remember that some of our good friends bled for Halo 4, and we want nothing more than for them to succeed.

I want nothing less than for 343i to succeed. I have high hopes for this game, and I'm going to the midnight launch party tonight to pick my copy up. I never want to see anyone fail (unless it is Auburn).

ITT DeeJ confirms BUNGiE will continue to exist after midnight tonight. Glad thats cleared up, because I sure was worried!

but really...I look forward for the new Halo series to conclude, so I can buy all the games for cheepness and play through the story. I will always keep tabs on Halo, but nothing will ever compare to the formative gaming years of high school and college, which had Halo 1 & 2 at their heart. It was an age unto itself for me and many others.

The blossoming of Halo 4 will be a testament not only to 343i, but to the entire Halo series, and everyone involved in its previous and continued success.

Disregard Females, acquire currency.

I would like to take this moment to also thank Bungie and congratulate them on a job well done. I like many people was sad to see Bungie leave the halo franchise they created but respect their choice. So thank you Bungie for all the wonderful years and amazing games. We will be looking forward to your future projects, I know they will be great. <3

Key

Beginnings of eras are far more interesting than endings.

What happened in the year 3 BC? Anything? Off the top of your head?

No. Nothing. Of course not.

What happened in the year 1 AD? -blam!- Jesus was born.

@spawn031

"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams

And so shall an era pass. I look at these passings quite differently. Sure it's great to look on the past, but look towards the future. Halo is great, but I look towards something new. I will usually try to keep up on the Halo lore and story line as best as I can. But I think most of the fans that visit here now (and have been here through most of the darkness, you know who you are) - are here for Bungie's Community.

2013 is going to be a great year.

LeaveItYeah

I remember my dad bringing Halo CE and the original Xbox home, much to my mums disgust.

Bungie made the game series we all know and love, but I'm sure it's in safe hands with 343 and I'm excited.

This may not be the place for this tangent, but while the life of Jesus was a beginning, neither the year 3 BCE nor the year 1 CE were beginnings or endings. They were the retrojection of an invented transition created by implementing a new calendar, and placing that calendrical structure over the past.

Almsot a very clever comment, though.

listen man, if it is any consolation, you guys had me puking (not literally). I will be pre-ordering Bungie's next game regardless if it is titled "Justin Beiber" because I am sure that it will be good.

  • 11.05.2012 2:27 PM PDT

I want to see what Bungie has cooking (I am excited to crack open my copy of Halo 4 tomorrow and see what happens to John).

This world wants to drag you down... And the weight, that guilt they want to hang around your neck, you don’t have to carry it one more step. You think they won’t let you rest, but it’s not up to them. It never was.

I'm gonna miss Halo: Reach. Sure it got a mixed response, but it's still Bungie's last Halo game, and one that I still enjoy.

I still have the game, all of Bungie's Halo games in fact, but it wont be the same anymore. Playing CE, 2, 3, ODST and Reach will be for the sake of fond memories; commemorating an age now past. I didn't know I could be so sentimental about video games till now :')

But here's to the future of Halo, and to Destiny!

Real account.

Join me as we make new friends from different communities!

If you assign every letter of the alphabet a number, a is 1, b is 2, etc., and you take all of the values of the word "MATH", and add them, you get 42. So math is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

I'm not even going to say some bad joke like the rest of these squats.

Кланяються мені!

I kinda considered Halo gone back in march. But I guess with the first non Bungie made game in the MAIN series (we cannot forget about Halo wars now) it will be the end of Bungie made Halo. But either way 343i has put a ton of very hard work into Halo 4. Regardless of what anybody thinks about it, the effort is very much worthy of respect.
