Yes. That's like asking if Empire Strikes Back was make or break.

"Awesomeness will ensue..."

BEN SPARTAN120

OP: I will wait until Bungie release their new ip, see how it does, base my opinion upon those facts, thus ensuring that I'd be correct, then either:

a) Travel back in time using my patented time machine [patent pending] to when this thread was made, post my response, then track down and kill my past self, ensuring that there are no time-space breaking paradoxes. Having done this, I shall wait patiently till I catch up with where I made my findings about Bungie's new ip, log in and pm you stating 'I told you so'.

or

b) skip the time machine, wait until the game comes out, and pm you with my findings.

I like option 'a'.

Hey I am a big Bungie fan ever since I played Halo 2. I love the series, I love Bungie. I have made a few Bungie logos in my metal shop.

I don't think that it is a make ore break the company is able to support itself. Plus it will be good, Bungie is a AAAA (yes quadruple A) so I think they will do a great job.

Destiny will be GOTY 2014

Well it certainly wouldn't be good if there new universe fell short with the first game, but it wouldn't be enough to bring the company down. They're already a major success.

  • 11.11.2012 7:33 AM PDT

Friends before pixels.

Nah. Halo made them a LOT of money, and they're not exactly a huge company with lots of running costs.

I think they're a-OK for now.

I like that they haven't tried to throw out a game quickly, I hope they take note from Rockstar and the way they produce games when they're ready, not to a deadline. Although that'll be down to Activision.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: After Reach? -blam!- yeah it's make or break.

This sums it up perfectly.

It's certainly not 'make'.

However, Reach has certainly dented their reputation.

I will be hesitant about Destiny and at best rent it first.

Obviously this is speculating and it could look awesome.

I don't know - their electricity bills must be huge, and all that food can't be too cheap either! They need some income and cash flow at some point - so this darkness can't last for much longer in order for them to maintain investor confidence within them.

I believe it will say a lot about them as a company going forward, possibly even make or break yes. That being said, Destiny is gonna kick ass and we all know it.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

I wouldn't call it make or break, but Bungie has a lot of hype surrounding Destiny. I have no doubts that they'll deliver, but they have a lot riding on it.

But, anyway, to answer the original question...

I do not think that their new game "Destiny" will be make or break for them when it is released, per se, however if it flops and turns out to be a complete disaster (or even just a bad game) then,

1) Their sales shortly after release would be hit, which would do no good for their financial situations.

2) Their overall reputation would be badly hit as fans react to a poor game as well as reviews being low, this would decrease investor confidence, put Activision at unease (possibly severing the contract) and heavily hit the sales of the game after Destiny (if there was one after this bad hypothetical set of events). This could quite easily lead to at least a reduction in the size of the company or even a collapse given the fact that game companies typically only release one major product every few years and so if the sales flop then they're going to have difficulty recovering.

But, of course, as I said, this is all just hypothetical and we'll just have to wait and see!

Destiny won't flop. Trust me :)

Unlike 343 I actually have faith in Bungie after they earnt it so deservedly over the last 10 years. I don't see how their next game could be "make or break" considering how well they've done with Halo and their reputation for quality.

Halo 4 made me realise that I'm a much bigger Bungie fan than I am a Halo fan. Without Bungie Halo isn't quite the same, it's lost its spark. Maybe its the music.

Hate to say it but what is destiny.

In all honesty though i doubt it may be make or break for them but its bungie and we all know the amount of time and dedication they put into games.
