You'd be stupid to pass up this opportunity if you were given the marketing budget Halo 4 was given.
Yeah, I understand Microsoft is just trying to make money as best as they can.
But Bungie on the other hand should be the pioneer damn it, break the mold. It might be dumb to do financially, I get it, but it is just a stupid idea I guess...
Exactly. It makes sense for them to have these promotions. It's something they can, and arguably should do, but it still sucks.
If there were marketing tie-ins with "gamer food" brands with whatever Bungie's next game is (which are unfortunately likely since it's Activision and Bungie we're talking about), I'd really dislike that. Hell, I'd probably not even buy the game. That might seem silly, and overly self-righteous (it is) but at least save that kind of stuff for the sequel, y'know?
As for a tie-in with healthy food, that's better, but it's just the opposite face of the same coin. It's a better image and message placed for and upon gamers, but it'd still be a partnership with another large company and their products, and it'd still feel slimy.
If there has to be some type of Double-XP deal, I'd like to see it gained through an ARG or something similar, that ran up to the launch of the game, and continued/tied into it's story. It'd also hopefully be similar to Valve's various ARGs, where it'd only be hosted on b.net.
There's a thin, possibly nonexistent, line between brand tie-ins for Double XP, and an ARG. If you're getting Doritos or Mountain Dew for Double XP, you're gonna get Halo 4. Same with getting Double XP if you play an ARG for a game. But, the brand method requires you (not like you're being forced at gunpoint, or something) to buy another product. The ARG would just require you to browse a site.
Though, that's just like, my opinion, man.
