Don't judge a book by its cover, unless it has bacon on the cover, then it is a good book.

Universe?

My question to Bungie is this. How come, aside from Halo CE, was black not an option for your Spartans matchmaking color scheme? You always gave us a semi-black. or a steel color. I have always wondered this, and the fact the the trend continues in Halo 4 (I know it is not your game, just simply pointing it out), makes me wonder if it is a coding problem or something?

People would use it to hide in the dark corners plus racism.

Why do you click that arrow?

Maybe certain textures on the armors would not appear if the color was completely black.

Probably because it would give an unfair advantage in non-team matches. You could hide in the shadows pretty effectively. TOO effectively.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Didact's Reprisal -
Now is the time of our unworlding
One final effort is all that remains
And I am not afraid
We shall fulfill our promise
We fight for the grace of the Mantle
And this time none of you will be left behind

Pretty much what everyone else said.

When this question was brought up after Halo 2's released, it was stated that black just matched too well with the shadows.

What has the black color has to do with racism? Are you ignorant or what?

Think you can take me in NHL12? Send me a message/invite

Omg, this gave me a flashback of Halo 3 when people would always post that question.

...and now, there's a Halo 4... 5 years later.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

Of course you can. Ever notice how breast cancer is associated with the color pink and the United States is associated with red, white, and blue? The government controls all of your colors skenny.

I also remember Bungie addressing this question. I can't find the source though.

Sorry to burst you bubble, but you can't copyright colors. That something is associated with a color doesn't mean that the color is copyrighted. Also the pink ribbon is copyrighted for breast cancer research, not the color pink. And the red white and blue in the flag of the USA can't be copyrighted but the flag itself can with those colors, so that nobody else may use those colors on a similar flag.

OT: shadows are black to.

Being someone that prefers a stealthy approach (sometimes,) the shadows can be pretty dark sometimes. Having completely black armor would just pretty much be a game breaker, as you can practically become invisible in the shadows. Bungie probably feared that some people would exploit this, and just opted not to have it put in. Thus, the dark gray we have now.

And now Darth Vader, and by extension, Disney.

Which makes me wonder, now that Disney owns LucasArts which licenses the term "droid", is Google or Motorola paying license fees to Disney?

Well we all know Google could afford it even if they had to.

The HELL you are! These are precious gifts to me and they are non-transferable! How dare you regift my challenge prize. You might as well hock a wedding ring for beer money. -DeeJ

Because of the way Bungie made their shadows. They use baked shadows, not real time shadows. So if a model goes from a light source into the baked shadow, then the model just gets darker. This mimics a shadow effect. Which is why black is not an option. It would be very hard to see someone hiding in the shadows.
