I think Reach is better than Halo 4, overall. The gunplay with bloom was ridiculous, but the game was still a Halo game and still played like one, just with the rifle fights being retarded. We still rushed power weapons and got middle control, and the game was still fairly slow paced and tactical. You still made timed pushes for power weapons, switched weapons for ones on the map for specific situations, called out constantly etc.
The armor abilities felt so wrong because it was still a Halo game. People think they aren't such a big deal in Halo 4, and that's because it isn't Halo. It's far too fast paced, there are no weapons to incent players to hold spots on the map, sprint allows some ridiculous get-aways and chases and the maps themselves just aren't Halo maps.
My xbox live ran out and I'm not even sure whether it's worth restoring it. I only ever played Halo on it, and now that Halo 3 is emptying out it probably isn't worth getting, at least not a large amount. I'd been playing Team Slayer lately (until it ran out a few days ago), and as a 50 with plenty of exp in the playlist I was very rarely getting put in competitive games. Maybe 1 game out of the 15 we played in a night's gaming was all 50s. Lots of them had players from 41-45 in them, mixed in with 50s. It was like playing social, with the 50s on each side racing to stomp the noobs on the other team faster than their opponent could. I can only imagine it's getting emptier with each day that passes now too. If I don't renew live for a few weeks I'm not sure whether I'll even be able to find enough games for it to be worth searching.
