Subject: Is there a way to locate the other Halos with algebra?

Do you feel what I feel, see what I see, hear what I hear?
There is a line you must draw between your dream world and reality

Let's look at the situation here. We have seven separate Installations spread across the galaxy and if one is activated, the rest will too. But couldn't one deduce that if you wanted to guarantee complete annihilation of all life in the galaxy, you would need to spread the Installations out in a pattern that would guarantee success.

Now if the Installations fire their pulse out equally, their paths would probably intersect (Like a Venn Diagram with seven circles).

But also take into consideration that the universe is not flat, so the shape would not be a simple septagon.

And we know the locations of two separate Installations, 04 (now destroyed) and 05. If one could trace the distance and relative position in the galaxy, couldn't one also use that to identify possible areas where the other Installations should be?

Knowing where the others were, the UNSC could (assuming there are readily available ships not busy fighting the Covenant) send a fleet of scout ships to find each Halo and use some kind of powerful nuclear weapon to destroy it?

I am...whimsical today.

They've got more pressing matters to deal with. And the Forerunners didn't need to eradicate the whole Galaxy, just the habitable parts.

A quote from 343 guilty Spark

They and all additional sentient life within 3 radii of the galactic center died, as planned

So we know what the range is for all Installations

when they discovered halo 04, covenant already knew about it, who's to say the covenant arnt already at the other halos? they would kill the UNSC as soon as they arrived

Correct, keep in mind that 343 said each Halo has a maximum effectiveness of 25,000 light years. All the Halos combined reach the entire Milky Way galaxy. Looking at the shape of the rings, it seems that they would "shoot" out cylinders, creating more of a wide beam.

While that could be true, if the Covenant were already stationed at each one wouldn't they have already activated them?

And when the IAC arrived at Installation-05, the only ship there was Regret's. (Which they followed)

I dont actually understand why the coveneant havnt activated them, they have the location of halos already stored in thier slipspace navaigation, so cant they just do it already?

actually let me correct myself, tarturus used Miranda's life to activate the halo because that job is for humans only, thats the reason the coveant havnt acivated the rings

Well it seems that they want something better. The Ark can remotley activate all the Halos, maybe their waiting to get there? I don't think they already have the coordinates of all the Halos in their slipspace navigation, unless I missed something.

that, or the fact humans can only operate the halo themselves, but I have a feeling they know the locations of the halos, thier race has been established on the great joruney for many years, they will have learnt all there is to know by now, except what the halo was actually built for of course
