"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.
I was a finalist :P
The introduction to Halo 4 seemed fitting in some aspects. You could look at the artistic differences between Halo 3's and 4's Forward Unto Dawn and see that as a massive failure-point. I don't really take it in that way myself, as the introductory level was indeed at a higher echelon of "class" as opposed to some of the other installments, but only when it came to scenery. That's all it does well on, because while the Chief is running and gunning and painting the walls blue and purple, I'm asking myself why the heck are we fighting the Covenant again - more specifically the Elites? At first I thought it'd be explained later on in the story, but all we end up hearing about them is an eleven word, forced, statement by Cortana; i.e "These Covenant seem more fanatical than the ones we've fought before."
There is no mention about what happened in that four year period between Humanity and the Elites; as well as what remained of the Covenant after killing their leader the Prophet of Truth. Are these enemies a faction? Are they the full deal? What happened to all the Brutes and Drones? Nope, no mention, it didn't even pass the Chief or Cortana to ask something that important to del Rio or Lasky.
I also can't seem to understand why so much content was put into the Terminals, an optional objective. The story could have been told a lot more clearly if said content would've been incorporated into the many a cutscene throughout the game. One particular example I could think of is the Didact's entrapment; how it happened (which would've made a clearer link to his hateful nature toward the Librarian.) I'm not stating that you shouldn't place information to find for people who want to delve deeper, but make it so that it is just that: added information which would not effect how understandable the main story is (kind of like Halo 3's terminals.) Added to the fact that people have to not only find a terminal, but access it online in order see it, makes it a complete inconvenience.
