Subject: A sincere apology to Martin O'Donnel.

I'm sorry man, but the main theme of Halo 4 takes the cake as the most haunting, powerful Halo theme to date. Your music was good, no doubt; but I'm sure you, with the rest of Bungie, are at least a little less stressed about the hands the Halo franchise has fallen into.

Not with a bang but a whimper.

His music was better, in my humble opinion. Waaaaaaay better.

Would you like more eloquence? The powerful mix of the piano and violin used by Marty creates a feeling seldom elicited by anything other than the epic poet. In this sense, Marty's work is akin to that of Homer or the unknown author of Beowulf. Such majesty is seldom seen in the world today and to claim that it has been surpassed is a bold statement indeed.

ITT: Yo Marty, I'm really happy for you. Imma let you finish, but Halo 4 has the best main theme of all time. OF ALL TIME.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

They're both good types of music, but Marty's music is just awesomer in my opinion.

Rain, and Jazz.
Halo: Tactical

I'm either a fool or an inteligent man, depending on how sleepy or angry I am.

I originaly made an account on 07.27.2007 but I wanted to link my GT and made this account. Don't forget your passwords!

I fear this thread could easily devolve into simply arguing over opinions. So far no one has said any specific reasons as to why they prefer one [composer?]'s music over another.

That said, I prefer Marty's music becasue it seems to be more invigorating and has more "OOMPH" to it. Halo 4's music on the other hand is very light, though not all that bad to listen to. I personaly think that the designers of Halo 4 did not really consider the impact fitting music could have in their game.

This world wants to drag you down... And the weight, that guilt they want to hang around your neck, you don’t have to carry it one more step. You think they won’t let you rest, but it’s not up to them. It never was.

Halo 4 doesn't have a theme. You mean To Galaxy or 117?

Your opinion is literally wrong.

I've never found myself annoyed at Marty's music when having to retry a section on Legendary.

With Halo 4 all I heard was repetitive pulsating melodies whilst trying to concentrate on a Knight when all I had was a silly magnum. It gets just a tad jarring.

Also, whoever decided on that awful warthog noise should be fired.

Also, I'm annoyed that Siege of Madrigal played for a couple bars in the credits. Or was that just me? I could have sworn it was the same song. [Just had a listen again, and it seems different to what I remember. Maybe it's just Marty's compositions playing tricks on me.]

What!? I find the Halo 3 menu theme to be much better.

Progo, Shrew, Chryso, all are the same.

Halo 3/ H3 ODST had some incredible music, I've owned the H3 score for over 2 years and I've not gotten tired of listening to it.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

The only music I enjoyed was the music when you are...

the menu theme is quite a bit like avatar. Marty's music had THAT videogame feel, and it was not at all cheesy, halo 4 is just trying to be dramatic, it's not bad, but it's not the best.

Get Marathon Here
Get Marathon 2 and Infinity Here

The Halo 4 score was good, but for me Marty's music is still my favorite game music of all time, the effect it had and has on me when I listen to it puts it on the same level as Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Bach, timeless and nerve striking, no matter how many times I played the games or listened to it on it's own, even now remembering back my heart pounds and my I feel energized to fight on.

When starting up Halo 4, I found something missing, the music seemed....acceptable, but not the kick ass experience I've had with Halo: CE, Halo 2 and Halo 3. Now later on in the game the music improved, and became a decent accompaniment to the combat and emotions of the story, but even still never struck a never like Marty's tracks, and too often it seemed repetitive.

Marty's music is a 10/10 for me, it sets the standard for excellence that all others are compared to. Halo 4's music is an 8, generally quite enjoyable, good in the game, but not memorable. Perhaps it will grow on me if I play the campaign more, but to be honest half of what drove me to replay Halo: CE for PC over and over and over was the feeling I got as the music lifted me up and fueled my slaughter. The same is true of Halo 2 and 3. Now I'm feeling nostalgic and frustrated that Marty isn't doing Halo music anymore. Both Marty and Cortana gone, This Is Not Your Father's Halo.

We should know better, because we are better.

Music in Halo 4 never really stood out for me. The piece of Halo music that stands out the best in my mind is when you are flying the heretic banshee in Halo 2.

I just saw a green monkey nut shot a small tan lizard(?) in a gunny sack.

I like 343's music, but I also enjoy the use of old Halo music in different parts of the game. But yes, I think the opening menu music is fantastic. Reminds me of Battlestar Galactica's opening music.

yeah, well....

This pretty much. It's not a bad score but it just doesn't say Halo to me at all.
