The Halo 4 score was good, but for me Marty's music is still my favorite game music of all time, the effect it had and has on me when I listen to it puts it on the same level as Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Bach, timeless and nerve striking, no matter how many times I played the games or listened to it on it's own, even now remembering back my heart pounds and my I feel energized to fight on.
When starting up Halo 4, I found something missing, the music seemed....acceptable, but not the kick ass experience I've had with Halo: CE, Halo 2 and Halo 3. Now later on in the game the music improved, and became a decent accompaniment to the combat and emotions of the story, but even still never struck a never like Marty's tracks, and too often it seemed repetitive.
Marty's music is a 10/10 for me, it sets the standard for excellence that all others are compared to. Halo 4's music is an 8, generally quite enjoyable, good in the game, but not memorable. Perhaps it will grow on me if I play the campaign more, but to be honest half of what drove me to replay Halo: CE for PC over and over and over was the feeling I got as the music lifted me up and fueled my slaughter. The same is true of Halo 2 and 3. Now I'm feeling nostalgic and frustrated that Marty isn't doing Halo music anymore. Both Marty and Cortana gone, This Is Not Your Father's Halo.
