"I have no words for thee, my voice is in my sword."
-William Shakespeare's Macbeth

For those that are unaware; the topic title comes from a line out of the Halo 3 Iris ARG in which the Forerunner discuss the discovery of humanity, and the need to save them from the Halo effect.

Starting with Halo: cryptum and continuing into Halo 4 we know that this piece of Halo canon has been rewritten or retconned entirely. The Forerunner didn't discover humanity on Earth, they placed them their after the Human-Forerunner war. Perhaps I am in the minority, but I feel that overall the Halo canon is weaker for these changes.

Not only that but the quality of writing found in this ARG as well as the Terminals throughout Halo 3 is far stronger than anything that has come after.

I'm just curious what everyone's thoughts on this matter are.

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

It was actually more likely to have been a lost Earth sort of story. Forerunners originally were Humans, so when they discovered Earth, they would have discovered a world in which they found plants and animals with an astonishing degree of genetic similarity. It probably wasn't Humans they found and were interested in, but the world itself. They then indexed themselves, fired the Array and then got reseeded on Earth. 100'000 years later they begin reclaiming their former civilization, thus "Reclaimers".

It's quaint, but overdone in sci-fi. 343i's approach is a more original idea, and I think the story's all the better for it.

If good looks could kill, I'd be a weapon of mass destruction.

Q: Hey, what did Hitler say to the black jew?
A: Get to the back of the oven.

While I acknowledge it's possible that 343 can rectify this to fit in current established canon, what if they retcon that terminal to be from the Forerunner-Precursor war? Ancient Forerunners find ancient humans near the end of the war in which they believe they will lose?

I'm not saying its a perfect solution but I wouldn't mind it going that way. I feel it would actually add an interesting note to the series.
