When I first saw the Didact in Halo 4, I was wondering which Didact it was. Was it Bornstellar or the original? The one in Halo 4 seemed to be much crueler than the Bornstellar Didact was portrayed in the books. He had a hate for humanity in the game. Bornstellar didn't hate humanity like the original Didact in the books. I know it was suggested that the original Didact was executed by Faber in the books, but it still doesn't add up to me. Why would Bornstellar suddenly hate humanity? Does it have to do with the imprint Didact put on him? Would it go so far as to take his compassion for humanity away from him and replace it with the original Didacts hate?

Soon to be breaking news:

US Coast Guard prepares for massive rescue mission after Iranian fleet sinks off shore. Reports say a small thunderstorm caused most of the ships to simply...fall apart.

It's the Ur-Didact. He was never executed, he was actually abandoned in a Flood-infested system.

Ur-Didact. He's the one who fought the humans as seen in the Terminals. Bornstellar wasn't even alive at that point.

I know. I never believed he was executed. It was said that he may have been executed by Faber after not revealing the locations of his shield worlds. So could that mean that he survived and is the Didact in Halo 4? BTW, can I have your source where you got the information abut him being abandoned in that system?

So what happened to Bornstellar?

When the going gets tough, whine and groan and complain, then post a thread on the flood about how tough the going is and flame anyone who disagrees.

I think that will be settled in the next book.

I was wondering the same thing, watching him in game and in the terminal videos.

I think the cannon on the Didact is all over the place and something doesn't fit. I will also admit I'm a bit behind on my reading of the Forerunner saga(as in I just started). But based on the information in the Terminals and that from the IRIS campaign and making the assumption that the Didact in those materials is the same one as the one in H4, his actions and origins don't make sense.

In the IRIS campaign it was pretty clear that the Didact "pressed the button" activating the Halo Arrays and stopping the flood 100,000 years ago. But this brings up a practical problem, if the Didact was well protected from the Halo effect but the rest of the Forerunners and life as a whole was destroyed, then who imprisoned him on Requiem?

In his communications to the Librarian from the Halo 3 terminals it appears that he's also reluctant in triggering the Halo effect. That doesn't sound like "An ancient Evil" to me....

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

After the Ur is imprisoned Bornstellar takes his place. He travels with the Librarian indexing species and he's the one who eventually fires the rings. At least that seems to be the current state of affairs. Silentium will clarify hopefully.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

Yeah, I think Ur went nuts, pissed off the Librarian, and she locked him up in Requiem. Bornstellar took over his old post, fought the Flood, and eventually fired the Array.

The conversations between the Didact and Librarian in the Halo 3 terminals was likely Bornstellar and her.

Well I can't blame him. I wouldn't be very happy if my wife thought I was dead and someone who took my job steals her from me. That would suck.

Where does it say that Ur was imprisoned? Lat time I checked, it was thought that he was executed by Faber.
