What do you think Master Chief is doing while Spartan Ops is going on? Is there even any mention of him during the missions or story narrative? And if he hasn't been mentioned yet, do you hope he is somehow implemented into SpOps in some badass cutscene? I just hope he's chilling on a beach or something damn it, he needs his Vitamin D after being in the suit for so long.

You look around. You fire your weapon before you realize.
Its just me. I fall and you walk up. You cry why.
When i pop up. You look at me in wonder. I say,"ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL."
You bend to my will and go to a cliff, walk off, and fall.
The last thing you hear is me stating as fact,"All will fail the battle of life, you just went early"

Isn't Spartan Ops at the same time as the Campaign?

I mean... *Spoilers*

You do see the Infinity almost fall into Requim. Did they do it again?

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

Here are my alternatives:

-Chillaxing

-Acquiring new Mjolnirz (Mantis+Mjolnir=Mjolntis or Menhir).

-Having an adventure somewhere else

Spartan Ops follows squads Crimson and Majestic. The Chief is not a part of either of these fireteams, hence why he isn't a part of the story. He will be mentioned at some points, he's still on active duty. He's just not the main focus of this series.

Probably getting some well-deserves R&R. When was the last time he had some shore-leave?

Could also be talking with Halsey/ *spoilers*

Taken out of active service due to psychological concerns, and the pressure of the public - they've been made aware of how Spartan-IIs were created, and the UEG probably doesn't want any of them fighting anymore to stay away from controversy.

He's probably grounded to Earth, seeing a shrink and wallowing away his days in depression.

Where the -blam!- is Nylund?

Master Chief was promoted to General Chief and found all his Spartans, together they defeated (the evil fascist) Jul 'Mdama and liberated Sanghelios from the minority of extremists who'd managed to usurp the Arbiter through devious means. Doctor Halsey's placed on trial and acquitted of all charges - we also learn she's got a masters law degree and works as a galactic judge in her spare time. Parangosky's locked away, humans and the Sangheili join hands and make friends with each other, ready to face the returning Flood together.

Also, 'the Didact was stronger-er than Master Chief'.

Out on a spacefaring adventure with Thel, Halsey, and a strange and colourful bunch of individuals*, attempting to track down and rebuild Mendicant Bias in order to stand a chance agains the corrupt OB who's preparing the return of the Master Builder now in control of the Flood.

Chased by the Storm, ONI, and the Forerunners, our heroes have to conquer their inner differences; understand why they deserve to triumph, as well as uncovering the final solution.

No. Spartan Ops started six months after Halo 4 event. Halo 4 was around summer 2557 and Spartans Ops starts at Feb 2558.

There was once some Halo in space and they killed Flood but Forerunners survived in Shield Worlds. Didact didn't like humans and so invaded Earth and ate our cereal.

Is that supposed to be some sort of counterpoint on the assumption that I am a fanboy of Nylund?

Seems like some people just want a nBSG rip-off with Halo stuffed as full as it can be upon every page turn and cutscene with silly little tragedies, shitty plot twists and "edgier and grittier" themes that every pseudo-intellectual thinks is objectively superior to stories sitting on the ideal-realistic side of the sliding scale as opposed to grimdark settings that would make even WH40k blush.

If you think that Halo's story is a pile of crap like that strawman you made then why are you here? Why were you ever here?

This is like demanding that Game of Thrones be more light hearted. It is what it is. If you don't like it, then ... bye. A series cannot change its core identity and still expect to be considered the same thing.

We should know better, because we are better.

One thing that annoys me is that people think the story/universe/characters must be flawed, dark, and gritty to be good. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever you can't make a good story that has an optimistic slant. Halo seems to be sliding more and more towards the cynical side and that dissapointed me. I prefered a more optimistic universe where humans and elites could actually co-operate without ONI trying to start an elite civil war.

It is most likely due to the effect of a specific type of Halo fans. Those who throughout the years playing Halo, because of some reason, always have been annoyed by theatrical dialouge, ridiculously behaving and sounding Grunts, overly eccentric aliens in general, apparently far to unrealistically colourful alien design, too subtle Forerunner architecture, and straight forward story layout when it comes to themes, intrigues and character portrayal, etc. In other words, parts of what made Halo, Halo. These fans are now in charge.

Was that earlier supposed to be a point on the assumption that I'm a fan of Karen Traviss?

Some people just want an Ender's Game rip-off with Halo stuffed as full as it can be upon every page turn and cutscene with action, clear-cut morality and a naive optimism that every idiot thinks is objectively superior to stories sitting on the actual-realistic side of the sliding scale as opposed to opaque sensibilities that would make even Starship Troopers blush.

If you think Halo's story's turned into a pile of crap like that strawman you made why are you here? Why do you persist in being here?

This is like demanding that you be an amicable fellow rather than a complete twat. You are what you are. If someone doesn't like it, then tough. A person can't change their core personality and expected to be considered the same thing.

Flies both ways. I was honestly just taking the piss out of the authors as I thought you were, but if you want to get nasty then fine. For your information, I've read every Halo book, perused all the extended material and played every game. I didn't discover the series until 2008, but that was long before 343i was even established - I fell in love with the series as it was under Bungie, and I still love what they did - even Nylund's work I find enjoyable, having read it all again recently. I enjoyed Halo when it was simple black/white morality, and even the 'ideal-realism' to a certain extent - I've written well over a thousand pages of Halo fan fiction set in the universe created pre-343i. But I'm not so obstinate as to decry every thematic shift, especially in light of the fact that the franchise has changed hands, to a group of people who clearly interpret the universe in a very different way to Bungie's - that isn't a flaw on their part, it's a characteristic of the Halo Universe that makes it so appealing; it can be viewed in so many ways and was done so long before Bungie bequeathed their gem.

I'm not going to get in a pissing war with you over this, even though I'm sure you'll unzip your trousers and let loose anyway.

But again, to reflect your question back, why ARE you still here? You clearly dislike where the Halo universe has gone, and I can't see Bungie wrestling it back from 343i any time soon.

Find something else.

So Master Chief goes back and relives memories from Harvest where he lost track of what it meant to be a Spartan, going on to train the new batch of Spartan IVs with Fred where he meets a younger edgier recruit who is really an ONI agent he has the hots for. They have strange awkward sex in the evac Pelican's cockpit while everyone else is sleeping.

Not sure there, "6 months after the Campaign" was a horrible cover up. To me it doesn't feel like part of the story, I like the fact they have episodes and stuff about the Spartan IV's but they should've done it before the Campaign perhaps. Too show the Spartan IV's in action, so you know who they are. Afterwards is pointless, cba to follow the storyline really thinking about the Chief and Cortana is too intense.

You are missing the purpose of Spartan Ops here it is suposed to show what hapens betwen 4 and 5, it's not suposed to be a full dish, just a apetite.

Some interesting things, though. We know Covenant asylum seekers are on Earth. We know New Phoenix is still under quarantine six months after the Didact hit it (which makes me think the UNSC/UEG are citing a virus-outbreak rather than telling the general population the truth about the Forerunners/Composer.) There's also the mysterious artefact found at the end of episode one, and the very fact that the UNSC seems to be trying to secure Requiem as it has Trevelyan, whereas the New-Covenant seem to be squatting there, probably waiting for the Didact to return.

I agree that the story could be better, but it's doing it's job and is a nice incentive to play the missions every week.
