I waited outside in the cold rain/snow in November for 14 hours at the local best buy.
I played that box for like 2 months and then.... crashes. Soon, after restarting it a few times, it refuses to even load up and just flashes red lights.
I send it in and get a second one.. very easy, quick, and best of all free. Great customer service.
I get my second box... it crashes and burns out completely before the end of the night.
Frustrated, I wait a couple months to send it back in. Replaced free, relatively quick too.
I'm now on my third box. I have played well over 90 hours of Oblivion, and also many hours of Geometry Wars, Need for Speed MW, MotoGP06 and of course Halo2, and have no problems, except for the occasional freeze playing Oblivion. No real problem.
The difference, I believe, is definitely in ventilation. I have a fan aimed perpendicular to the rear of the box (sitting vertically), in order to help transfer the hot air that blows out the back away from the box. I have recently purchased a Nyko Intercooler (20$) that seems to work really well. (still cautious though... since its not an officially licensed microsoft product)
I'm not really concerned about this problem anymore though. Microsoft seems to be eager to replace these boxes, as they know many are faulty and it is a hardware problem, a bad rep could easily turn off many would be customers.
Seriosuly guy if you have a 360 you should be taking advantage of the awesome games already out, and many soon to be out. That machine is bad ass.
