Narwhallace Smithington: Gone, but not forgotten. Never approve of anything lil guy. <3
Furious George: The new -blam!-

I've met plenty of cool people through Xbox Live and have become active in online communities (such as this one) because of it. Over the last 7 years (for me), I've formed some pretty strong bonds with people through what's become more than just a medium to play games. Some people have come and gone and some have stuck around and I'm very lucky to have known all of them.

Good times.

OT: Grats Microsoft, for releasing a system which set a standard. A litmus test, which everything afterwards will be compared to.

I didn't get my account until a few months before Halo 2 was released. I got it specifically to get acclimated to xboxlive games in preparation for Halo 2 online. Damn, I can be pretty obsessive sometimes.

Achronos: And what's this about a "design team" I've been hearing? Apparently stosh is so awesome he's now considered a "team".

I have met some awesome and inspiring people whilst on live and even made some really good friends. It has gotten me through my years at school being bullied and made me the person I am now. Xbox live along with Bungie is a large part of my life and I am happy for it.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

Guess I wasn't good enough for the Mail Sack..

:(

Guess I'll just copy what I posted in the thread in the Mythix group:I am a long time gamer. From the days I was around 7 to when I was 11 I would play regular games on my Playstation and N64. I discovered Xbox Live when I was playing Halo CE and every aspect of gaming has changed for me. From Halo Wheelmen in Halo 3 to joining the VFL on Madden 12, the communities I have discovered and the people I have met have made my experiences and memories all the better. Xbox Live is definitely one of my cornerstones and it helps me keep up with some close friends now that I'm in college.

Guess I'll just copy what I posted in the thread in the Mythix group:

Xbox Live introduced me to two of my five or so closest friends I have today. I know one of them in person, and I will soon be meeting the other. These friends have shaped who I am and made me a better person. It's gained me a pen-pal from Britain, with whom I regularly share ideas and philosophies. It awakened my inner competitive gamer. It introduced me to the communities, such as this one, that love the games they play just as much as I do. In short, I would be a lot less confident and social without Xbox Live.

Well, honestly, I would have never got XBL if it wasnt for Bungie.
Same; I wanted to play Halo 3 with some friends I'd made on IRC and driving some 1,500+ miles to hang out with the nearest one wasn't a practical option, and hopping a plane to England even less so.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

Halo 2 was the reason I got XBL.

Honestly, I don't think I would have become the gamer I am today without XBL.. It opened me up to online interactions with whole communities, got me interested in actually checking out the developers, and allowed me to sharpen and hone my skills much more so than I would have ever been able to with my small circle of friends.

I'm pretty sure it was a Halo game that finally got me to subscribe to Xbox Live, but I am so glad I did, and I wish that I had been financially able to earlier :)

NON FACET NOBIS CALCITRARE VESTRUM PERNĒ¢UM

Well, XBL actually has impacted my life. Before I got into online gaming, I was a hardcore solo player. Never was much for playing nicely with others. So when I finally decided to plug in the modem to the Xbox (after buying H3), I realized I was only reducing my own gaming experience by not being involved in online co-op or head-to-head games. Some of my really good friends I've met through Live and I'm glad that XBL has been a platform for like-minded people to get together and have some good times. So thanks for the great years so far XBL and hope that it's another awesome 10 years ahead of us.

  • 11.16.2012 5:46 AM PDT

XBL has completely changed my outlooking in gaming. I forever only played games for their content and could have cared less for online play. bought my first xbox and Reach my world changed forever. I'm now obsessed with new parts of games, but i'm still every bit as picky... Battlefield 3 was garbage to me, so I'm excited for a new Universe to play in next year!

I broke one of the cords for my X11s because I couldn't get past the final American course in Doritos Crash Course.

I wonder if we'd be playing xbox live right now if it wasnt for halo 2

Same here. I got the Halo 2/Live box set about 7-8 years ago for Christmas. Been playing Halo ever since.

I feel a bit nostalgic for the time when Map packs became free after 6 or so months. What happened to that? Did Microsoft change their policy?
