The Bungie Weekly Update

Bungie Weekly Update

When the single player guys file out (or as is often the case, stay put) then the multiplayer sessions begin in earnest. We were trying out a new multiplayer game type - and it is super fun, yet utterly terrifying at the same time. I have never, ever heard so much frightened screaming during a play test of anything. And plenty of laughing too.

Everyone's been paying attention to the "grunt pincer movement" thing, but this is the one that really stuck out to me, since it has to do with multiplayer. Now I'm wondering- what the heck is this gametype? Has Bungie included Zombies as some kind of gametype? Is it something different? I'm intrigued that it's a gametype that is terrifying, yet hilarious and fun at the same time.

What do you guys think it is? Are you excited about it at all? Thoughts.

wait it's zombies where the zombies are actually flood elites with shields. they cant use weapons but move fast and have a big jump and melee attack. It's not as far fetched as it may sound at first. Think about it.

Yeah, I've kind of wondered if they were going to include a few gametypes that had something to do with the Flood- I wonder if this is it? I'd hate to see a Flood model in Multiplayer, but if it's just a gametype with the Flood, I wouldn't mind that. I just wouldn't want to be playing in MM and seeing a Spartan, a Covie, and like a combat form.

I really think that they probably included a survival mode, or something of the sort. Where you, and your team mates are in in the middle of a map, or stranded someplace and flood keep on spwning and attack wave after wave. What do you guys think?

Nice, I actually like that idea. Perhaps this is akin to the survival mode that people have been talking about? Where you and your friends are facing off against a bunch of bot characers.

Actually, something else in the update was important as well. Frankie was fighting grunts...but then the theories about the elites, grunts, and hunters becoming allies with the humans are false. MC is fighting grunts... not brutes, at the time at least. There is some change that must happen to the plot if grunts go on the convenant side agian.

yeah most of us should have known that there would be another twist in the plot...
otherwise it would get boring...
i just cant wait to finally play it!!!

or even a screenshot from the game...

First off, you quaoted the wrong thing, I think he was talking about SP when he said "grunt pincer movement"

and yes I think that Survival with the flood is in, since he said he has never heard so much terrified screaming before.

Well, the way I look at it, the revolution occured at Delta Halo and High charity, relatively recently. The Covenant armada is very big, and the Covenant span a large area of space. So, I think it is very plausable that word of the rebellion has not spread that far. Remember, there were probably still ships in orbit around Earth, which could number up to 13, after the metropolis level. That makes 13 ships of grunt for the MC to fight.

The Grunt pincer tactic is just an example of what the AI can do. Other tactics that they are probably including are phalanx, distractions, maybe a little bit of flanking, single file(just for attacking enemies by suprise) also to cover there tracks to hide their numbers(from Star wars and footprints would be interesting in Halo 3 so you can predict what you will face).

that which is not dead can eternal lie, but with strange aeons even death may die.

this is the best that the grunts can do,

Running at you in a single filed line, screaming at the top of there lungs, you will be so flabergasted that by the time you know whats happening they'll already be all over you,
that or, you just use a BR, and mow them down as the come at you.

ps. I also think it is a form of Zombies, And I dont see why Elite with shields wouldn't be that bad, they would just have the same stats as the elites, but maybe easier to kill, or something, or not hold guns, that why there faster, with a big jump. also, iits possible that the first player. (the first zombie) actually start as a horde of infection forms? and has to kill and take over players, then they joind his team as flood, or something. I dunno. but I think it would be a sweet gametype.

Also, personaly I dont like the idea of spartan flood, I mean im not saying its impossible, just that a spartan would probably kill itself before being taken over by the flood, or just going out with a bang, but for multiplayer I could see it happeneing.

sorry for the double post.

Who says Frankie was even playing as Master Cheif? And as for the word of the rebellion not being spread very fast.. Well it's possible, but it doesn't seem likely to me.

i highly doubt that bungie would introduce ANOTHER playable character from the loyalist point of view. that would take away development time and would be pretty pointless.

also, it is far more likely that the covenant forces attacking earth have no idea of what happened on delta halo or high charity. why would they? I mean, they obviously didnt witness it, otherwise the fleet would probably be attacking itself and we could deal with it pretty easily. the only way they could have possibly known is if the elites and such on delta halo somehow sent out a message to earth informing everyone of the revolution. EVEN THEN, it is doubtful that all of the grunts, elites, and hunters would just switch sides all of a sudden. you dont live your entire life with a reiligious philosophy, then throw it all away when you're so close to your great journey just because some elite with the mark of shame told you that it was all a lie.

13 ships vs. 298 MACS and a Human fleet of a few hundred. I doubt those ships lasted more than a few minutes.

those mac stations are in orbit. considering that the covenant only attacked africa, only those in orbit over africa can fire on the covenant ships, along with our human ships, but those dont seem to be very effective. once they're in our atmosphere, the marines are our last real line of defense.

i'm fairly confident that those 13 ships could hold their own for at least a couple hours.

I did not ignore this. I made a thread on it immediately after reading the update.

Anyway. I think they made zombies/infection.

Well the covenent clearly won at some point. And for the message being sent, only the prophet of truth was there and despite his name i dougt hes going to go and tell all his armys that "o ya you guys are revolting against us"

Happy Canada day

The Grunt Pincer Movement. (TGRM)

Well i know what that is. Definatly 100% know what it is.

Pincer is a POKeMon. The brown lobster like thing that looks humanoid in shape. with giant silver claw things on top.

And a grunt is well.. a mentally retard thing that lives on methane.

And ovement is moving around.

So TGRM is a grunt that had offspring with a pincer from planet POKeMON... and it gave birth to a grunt pincer... that moves. and bungie used that movement as an idea and created a type of gamplay out of it.

.....Or a A.I. grunt-pincer will be on MP... and I imagine it looking retarded. A grunt with poop-brown armour... massive horns petruding through its head... being short still. tiny retarded arms. and carring a massive gun.. hmmmm... lets seee.... what gun is massive.... ooooo!!! "Unreal Tournaments" big homing-missile thingy... the "Redemption Gun"...thats what I think it was called.

Lol... I love going into these crazy little imaginative places. Thinking of all these crazy ideas.
...Here's my flood idea. CRAZEE!!!

Haha, ok, some of you guys have gone waaaaay off topic here. Anywho, on top of it being an "infection" gametype, I'm actually hoping that he's referring to some kind of survival or co-op scenario a la GRAW, where you and 3 other teammates can battle a horde of enemies coming at you- perhaps one of those scenarios is for the flood? I think that would be freaking sweet.
