Subject: Are the moniters pure AI?

Earlier today, i was browsing the terminals from the anniversary, and the terminals from halo 4. Then, i had an idea that the monitors like guilty spark, could have been specially chosen forerunners who were put into the monitors bodies by the composer. Since you people seem to be experts on this sort of thing, are the monitors pure AI, or were they forerunners who were put into the monitor's bodies by the composer?

You're right actually. 343 Guilty Spark was an ancient human called Chakas. He was turned into an A.I and placed into a monitor. You can read the wiki for more information.

Or better yet, read the books. First hand information is always better. That way when it comes to theories/speculation you can formulate your own thoughts and opinions with the influence of biased articles. More importantly though, you'll enjoy it more.

My good sir, i do not have the time, nor the motivation to read ALL of the books. So far, then only book i have had the time to read and finish is glass lands. As for the forerunner saga, i might attempt to read it once the final book is released. But until then, i will be finding information on Wikipedia as my friend above you recommended.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

Which begs the question, why are the Prometheans relatively simplistic compared to a monitor? All they seem to know is "kill intruders", while Guilty Chakas is a full-fledged composed AI.

probably because 343 was dumb.

Prometheans are the result of taking a digital composed 'AI' and then attempting to turn it biological once more; in doing so, they become corrupted.

I'm not entirely sure why the Didact didn't just leave them artificial, instead of having a cognitively-challenged hybrid.

Prometheans are just soldiers. 343 Guilty Spark on the other hand is the caretaker of the Halo ring, which is a much bigger task. That's why he has control over the sentinels and Halo's teleportation grid. He's the boss!

"Hello, I am Ring Moniter 666 John Cena".

Chakas was probably composed specifically, instead of firing a beam at a bunch of people and hoping for the best. Also, maybe the Prometheans A) suffered rampancy B) worse than he did.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

I just have to wonder how Chakas stayed relatively sane for the past 100,000 years. He had millions of ancient human "spirits" within him when he was Composed into a Monitor. Then he became fragmented.

I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

In one of the Anniversary Terminal videos, it shows 343 Guilty Spark going into a deep hibernation period that's supposed to stall rampancy. Unfortunately, it did not work as effectively as he had imagined it would.

But if he is actually human, then why did guilty spark endanger humanity by attempting to fire the halo ring in combat evolved? Another question is does he remember being human? Also, why was he chosen to be a care taker? From what i know, the forerunners would never trust a "human" to do such a huge task.

I guess nobody knows the answer to my new questions. This is very saddening.

Magic is magical, so are shoes... Along with plastic.
Don't forget to flush the toilet, because -blam!- stinks.

That part has yet to revealed, the second Forerunner book did not leave us with chakas as 343 being the caretaker of 04.
The narrative left us at two points:

1) Chakas being an incomplete 343, with Born-Didact after talking to the Primordial, or something of the like.

2) 343 taking control of a human vessel at an unspecified date, seeking the Librarian to recover Riser and Vinn...whatever's spirits, after he has concluded that two of the oni/science team contains their spirits, like he with the Lord of Admirals.(I read somewhere that this was a backup 343 created, possibly after the 04's caretaker was destroyed, or created beforehand and released elsewhere.)

So we must wait for the final book in the forerunner saga of books, or Halo 5 will provide us with some more terminals on this matter.
