Well my first worthwhile update, progress is real slow with all these guys, completely worth it though.

Hmm... That seems really cool OP. How much would I need to get a few larva?
Depends on the species, beginner fruit beetles for the commonest species go for 50p to around £3. If you want the larger giant fruit beetles expect to pay £8 at least. As for the giant stag and hercules style beetles at the minute they are around £14 give or take which is good, rare species can go for triple that. Fortunately a lot more people are keeping beetles so the more expensive ones are getting cheaper.
The hercules beetles i have hear cost me £5 each, absolute bargain, someone brought the rest of them and advertised for for £60 a pair only which is BS.

Cool.
I've never grown grubs on purpose before. Any tips? I might consider doing this sometime.
If i havent already PM'd you before they are reasonably easy and low maintenance. You just need the right mix of soil, it has to be rotting leaves usually of oak or beech from a year at least, aswell as rotting word of the same trees when its gone near white and extremely soft and crumbly from rotting. Keep the temps right, keep an eye on the humidity and then just have patience. If they eat almost all the leaf litter and would and the soil looks barren you'll need to get some more obviously. Then its just a waiting game.

I wonder how well those taste op. Have you tried sauteed grub before?
I've been tempted by crickets before now, but not these :P

Make them grow faster, for I can't wait for new pics.
There hasnt been much change since the last pictures, cant really get them to grow much faster, warmer temps can speed them up but im keeping them as warm as i can, they should hopefully start turning yellowish soon, which means they'll pupate, although they might not be on their final larvae stage yet. As soon as they hatch they are 1st instar, then they moult into bigger larvae, 2nd instar, then they moult again to 3rd instar, after that they pupate.

have you told them to get back in their hole?
OT- i used to look after caterpillars
They called me a groundwalker back :(
Been trying to get some atlas or moon moth catepillars, foodplants a lil scarce here though, reared robin moths before.
-EDIT-
Remembered why i dragged this thread up, had an awkward look under all the Hercules beetle grubs today, was looking for a mm wide extremely partial dent under their abdomens to tell if they are male or female, females are completely smooth, got 2 males and 4 females which is perfect for breeding :D
Here's one of the males, hover over the pic to see what i was looking for.
