Subject: Do you think a user effects the threads content?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Is your view of a thread and it's subject affected by who the OP is?

I think you might have meant to say "affected".

Anyways, no for the most part. I generaly reply the same way unless I heavily suspect the poster to be a troll or the post itself to be a troll post.

EDIT: Holy-cow! I've been here longer than Sken!

EDIT2: Upon extended consideration I think posts made by Ninjas or Bungie employees do affect the thread regardless if they are the OP or not.

Not really. The effect of a person's username is pretty small. I might click on a thread by a user who I know makes good threads. but usually that's where that effect ends.

  • 11.16.2012 5:17 PM PDT

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

"Affect" means to influence or change something. "Effect" means to cause something.

So if sken means "is your view caused by the OP", then he used it right. If he means "is your view influenced by the OP", then he used the word incorrectly.

Huh, good point. Perhaps a complete re-wording of his post is in order?

No, it will affect it.

You could say his response will "effect a high reply count" specifically, though.

I do think that each user affects a thread in different ways. By how they word it, the meaning or the idea they are trying to get across, each user has their own stlyle or personality that in itself affect a thread.

So yes in my own opinion each user has their own unique affect on a thread.

They just like dropping little cryptic hints,

The recurring theme?

Plausible deniability.

I have noticed an increase in these little blurbs that they do lately.

No. It typically depends on what is being said and in what manner it is being said.
