I was browsing about the OGame forums, when I found ->this<-. I think that something would be endlessly beneficial for the Bungie.net forums as there's almost always a need for a Mod.

I'm not suggesting that we should have an email option, just an "online" and "PM" option for ease.

Anyone else think so? :\

I disagree with the "online status" option for one reason and one reason only: Spammers.

The second some spammer sees all the mods are offline, they'll think that they're free for misbehaving. And the last thing we need is another gigantic spam attack.

It's understandable that your idea is meant for good intentions, but chances are, it will only make things worse.

To Make Posts is Glorious

Some threads will get posts before others and it is the duty of the Leadership to ensure that posts are made that best suit the public welfare.

"heh"

It would also tell spammers when they're not online.

I think it would be a better idea just to keep a couple of them on your MSN list or AIM list.

yeah, as much as it would help, it could also hurt. Maybe you would have to earn the right to have it. Like be nominated by a mod.

I do, I have about... 4 or 5.

When they aren't signed into Bungie.net then they wouldn't appear as on, so they could just be on MSN or something. Also, maybe an "appear offline" status could be helpful. I still think it could work... :\

I think you misunderstand the problem. If there aren't any on then Spammers will come.

Yes, I do understand that. Spammers know this anyway, just look through the forums and if there are no threads that have been locked recently and no posts in The Septagon, then there are no Mods on.

This would really help for when there are Mods on, and spammers are rapant. A lot of Mods don't go on the bnetmods Google Talk, and more don't give out their IM names. PMing Mods has always been a good way to contact them, but you could be PMing someone who was on, but now isn't and you wouldn't know.

Or maybe a moderator is just on a different forum then the one that hasnt been moderated yet, things have worked out fine, I think the way things are working now is doing the job fine.

I, too, have seen this happen.

But if you notice something, there is no true, accurate way for them to tell whether there were no mods on or not unless they had all the mods' profile pages open and kept refreshing them. It's not even accurate then.

Having an online status section for the mods most likely won't help fix the situation. It mostly worsens it simply because now they can check the status of all the mods in just one window rather than many.

In other words: This feature would most likely benefit spammers more than the regular member like you or I. In all honesty... I think it's probably just best left alone.
