Subject: Alot of Halo 4's campaign seemed too.... fast paced.

In many places during the campaign, I felt like there were too many events in each level that were rushed over and not explained well. For example, I quickly lost sight of what was going on when you entered Requiem's core, and had to shut down those beam things. Only after reflecting on the events did I understand that Didact manipulated us to release him by using Infinity's communications.

Also, the large part played by the transmissions you recieve from Cortana and others was a new aspect, one that took me a while to get used to. While I recognized terms like "Infinity" and "Lasky" when Cortana started talking about them, I was confused as to where she got these topics from.

Overall, I like the content of the story, it's only the the manner in which 343 tries to tell it that I dislike.

Did any of you guys feel like this while playing, or is it just me?

Don't get how you missed the first one, since Cortana actually tells you that's exactly what happened. And I agree a bit on the second one to an extent, but Cortana knew the name Infinity because she heard in over the com-signal. Same with Lasky.

Maybe it's just me, but even without the books I'm not sure how people were so confused.

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

'Wait, Cortana, I know about the Infinity because I'm not actually a Halo character and have been following the game since it was announced, but you've been practically alone on a lifeless ship for four years, how do you know about it?'

She's the most advanced AI in ONI. She explains that she knew about it awhile before Halo 4, but it was only in prototyping.

One of the only things I thought was strange was how Cortana and the Chief knew exactly who the Didact was immediately after first encountering him, even though he never identified himself by name/title.

The Covenant bow and say "Didact" when they see him.

That she does. But she knows an awful lot about it. I guess she just haxxed information for the lolz.

Maroon 5 is awesome. Deal with it.

The campaign is the sort of thing where the Hardcore fans who read the novels understand everything and they explain everything that happens in game.

Such as The Didact and the Librarian story arc (Forerunner Saga: Cryptum, Primordium and Silentium (2013) and the Kilo five trilogy (Glasslands and The Thursday War) which explains the covenant's presence in Halo 4.

But I know what you mean by the campaign feeling rushed.

The story was great, gameplay was pretty bad though. It felt way too linear compared to other Halo games. There was just something about that other games that made them feel less "Push this button, trigger cutscene."

The campaign was terrible in my opinion. How could they possibly screw up Halo? All they had to do was do exactly what Bungie had done for the last decade.

I think, to be fair, H4 had way more exploration than Reach ever did, but CE had even more of that. The reason was you had an impetus in CE to find lots of people: marines and then Keyes. Halo 4's earlier objectives are more about investigating technology, hence all the button pressing.

I suggested the other day that (one of) 343's first objective(s) on Requiem should have been a three-part non-linear objective, like rescuing the marines on Halo. But, to be fair, someone pointed out that would have been a blatant copy-paste. I just feel that a more exploratory objective set like that would have encouraged that sense of freedom and non-linearity, instead of like one large valley, and then a bunch of A to B arenas.

My troll sense is tingling.

It's more to do with problems with exposition. I really like the pace of Halo 4, in fact if it were to drag a little more it might have started to feel pretty repetitive.

Yeah the game felt pretty rushed. There were definitely moments where I felt like they could've squeezed a gameplay segment into, but they opted for a cutscene instead. Like I remember one scene where it was something like MasterChief talking to people onboard a ship, and then it cuts to the next scene where he's standing over a dead Elite, reloading his weapon.

Well, after taking down two Hunters with a Fuel Rod Cannon and/or Scattershot, then watching Cortana rip down several sky towers around the Didact, I doubt taking out a handful of Grunts, Jackals and maybe an Elite or two on the Lich would have been very exciting.

<(-_-)> Teh mokey is not amused

I liked the pace just fine, though I am a very fast-paced person. I don't see it as a major issue with the campaign though dragging it out a bit would be nice in halo 5.

I'm pretty sure the cutscene I'm talking about was before this moment, but I could be wrong. Nothing in the Halo 4 campaign was exciting anyways...imo.

*shrug*
Seemed well paced to me. Except for the introduction of the crawlers. It was like... 'here they are see?' Then one area later 'K now kill.' Otherwise it all seemed brilliantly well done.
