I think AMD is better. I have Intel, I never tried an AMD.

Thats what I have; its just the same for both AMD and Intel , just AMD doesn't have the big name. Think of it like getting your silver from some place other that Tiffany's, its just as shiny, but doesn't have the big name.

wtff did you just try to say?

AMD's as of now are better for gaming. If you get a desktop, go for AMD

For laptops, intels are much better. The core duo's are far superior to any mobile amd cpu and require much less power giving greater battery life and better preformance.

A common misconception would be to say that Intel is better primarily because of clock speed, It's All About Performance! An Athlon 4000+ (2.4 Ghz) is equivalent to a Pentium 4 4.0 Ghz. Here are a few links for you to read.

the only way to show which cpu's are better is to compare with benchmarks....amd wins most of the time for desktops

well the althon 64's are old now.....that is the socket 754 and 939. AMD recently introduced the socket AM2 line of CPUs which are dual core.

Yes Atholon 64 is what you want because Vista will be coming out and will be a 64-bit Operating system.

Huh?
The new processors are still A64s just the IMC is changed. And there are dual cores on 939.

I heard AMD is better for desktop gaming. I use Intel, so I wouldn't know.

im not exactly sure about this, but i think that the conroe chips will be hybrid, or be able to do both 32 and 64bit, similar to the AMD 64 series. AMD cpus are usually better for overclocking because most of them come with an unlocked multiplier, and they also have lower power consumption than most intel models. Before you buy anything wait for conroe to come out and watch the prices drop for everything. ~july 27 <-- release date

No, the AM2's are 940 pins. And yes the X2 series are on the 939's but theyre completely different from the AM2's.

The AM2 line of CPU's are the fx, x2, athlon 64 and sempron 64. Theres an extra pin so theyre obviously not the same as the 939's. Its not like they randomly threw that pin on there and got it working.

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

From what I have heard, AMD is better for gaming, and Intel is better for office work and for multimedia.

I have an Intel and I have no problems with games or with multimedia.

My mom has an AMD, and her computer is really slow. I would reccomend at least 1GB of RAM with either company.(she has 512MB)

no, Intel is just good all around. Dual core CPU's are better for office work and multimedia because they have much higher cache and can handle more stuff at once. Theyre great for digital media editing such as photoshop, adobe premier and some other video editing programs.

And to everyone, if you have a computer the minimum amount of ram I would suggest would be 1 gig. I'd highly suggest to have 1.5-2 gigs. Its really not that expensive and its a great upgrade.

Windows x64 is already out and I've used it. 64 bit OS's really arent that much faster. its not double the speed like it may seem. I have x64 installed on my system that has the 64 3200+ and its really not that much better than regular xp.

You don't need a 64 bit processor for Vista. I am running the 32 bit version of Vista as I type, and I have no problems with speed.
