It costed Chief Cortana to stop the Didact temporarily, his best and possibly only friend gone to delay him. I feel like in the end Chief will give his life to defeat him.

Frag grenade.

Bullet to the head tends to work.

Seriously though, he isn't our only problem. The Precursors would swat him like a fly once they begin their final test. I'm more worried about them than the Didact.

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

A nuke aught to do it. No matter how advanced a being is, it can only survive so much energy concentrated in a single location. It's simple physics.

Its unconfirmed that the Didact is not dead. So until then, he is dead.

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

I hope he's pulled away screaming like the turtle in Rango, by a Precursor. If he actually is alive, which I hope he isn't.

Epilogue pretty much confirms that he is still alive.

We don't know when he said that, so until I see the Didact in game again or until 343 says he's alive, I will continue to believe he is dead.

Something better than Didact.

I think that speech was something he said in the past, before any halo games.

An assassin will always carry on, even after death.

I believe the Didact's speech was during the last Forerunner-Human war, however it could also be that he has joined up with other living Forerunners and is now attempting to convince them that Humanity is a serious threat to the mantle; that we will destroy it rather than uphold it.

The Didact is more than likely alive I believe, and Cortana is with him, trapped inside his armour. The question for me is; will he emerge an enemy again, or an unwilling ally like the Arbiter in Halo 2?

Couldn't have been, the Didact didn't know about mankind's Precursor-given destiny to uphold the Mantle before he blew us back to the stone age. And when he did find out, we were in no position for the "reclamation to have already begun," (he doesn't even think it has begun when you first awaken him) and definitely in no position to be the "greatest threat in the galaxy."

All of that could only possibly have been said after Halo 4.

Huh? Do you seriously think they are going to kill that important of a character off screen and in the first introduction? It was even said before halo 4 that his involvement in the trilogy would be interesting. Don't even get me started on the fact that a single pulse grenade wouldn't kill him (since it hardly kills anyone) not to mention he is talking at the end of the game.

jesus.

I think that Bornstellar had his portion of mind composed leaving the didact to his body. That would be the best way to explain one being on the ring and the beginning of cryptum.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

Let's wait until Silentium to be sure about that stuff. I got a hunch that book will explain a few things 4 introduced.

jesus.

I'm with Grey on this one. Also, in the terminals the Didact was going through mutations to see if his true form would be immune to flood infection. Saying no to this, another Forunner said what about the Composer, and the Didact replied "It wouldn't work on my form." Also, he fell into the portal, the slip-space rupture for the Composer which sent him to Requiem so basically he survived.

I'm pretty sure that was just a postmortem monologue.
