Uh huh... very fustrating. I don't mind the Mormon religion, but I do think that there are some things in it that just don't seem right. For example, not being able to smoke, drink caffeine, and swim on Sundays.

Well, those things can be thought of as harmful (minus the swimming), so I don't see anything that terrible with it.

You're supposed to respect the body God gave you, correct?

Arrogance, I suppose. I am arrogant enough to assume that my observations (not inferences, but just simple observations) are correct.

Though, arrogance isn't equated with being incorrect. It just means I make conclusions, even when there's a bit of doubt (albiet nihilistic doubt, doubt still, from a logical standpoint).

I'm actually waiting for a mod to get on AIM so I can message them about this thread.

I figure, while I'm here why not try to turn it into a more civil discussion instead of a mormon bashing-spree?

Was that in response to something or did you just feel like throwing it out?

I suppose. I'm not a very religious person.

Because they aren't paying you to, or giving you a custom avatar for your troubles.

Sorry, this post just moves so quick, and I had some back-reading to do..

I was responding to the comments about "smoking" and whatnot...

I was born/raised a Mormon, but my family wasn't a very strict "go to church every week" type =P We always found ourselves getting busier and busier... I slowly feel into atheism(sp?)

In the Bible it suggests (well, demands) that a disobedient child be stoned.

You don't find that strange?

I don't think I've heard the "no swimming on sunday" one... but I don't remember much of my child-hood anymore(even though I'm not that old).

Plus, I live in FL... its sacriligious to say we can't swim! =P

That's probably in the old testament, no one takes the old testament seriously anymore except the Jews. The old testament (for christians anyway) is mainly just for reference to the prophecies of Jesus

I think "swim" is equated with "play", which is supposed to be off-limits on sundays.

Yeah, it is in the OT. Still, it's the building block for the NT - it's supposed to be the same God, right? The God of Abraham?

By-god, what do we DO?!

=P

Yeah it's the same God and all, it's just that most of the weird laws like the one you described in the OT where put to rest when Jesus came.

It simply saying to punish that child for being disobediant, and the bible states that disobediance is as bad as witchcraft.

"It's simply saying to punish that child"

Punish? Is death a just punishment?

Stoning implies execution.
