Don't judge a book by its cover, unless it has bacon on the cover, then it is a good book.

your dumb OP. It says Halo on the box. Master Chief is in it. It has vehicles (Call of Duty does not).

Everything you posted was opinions. I enjoyed the game and that is all that matters. As a long time Halo fan, I was not disappointed in the slightest

It is not Bungie's Halo, that much is true, but times change, people come and go, and the things you loved as a kid can never be replicated. You can either accept that like a mature individual, or be left behind wallowing in rose-tinted memories of the past.

Adapt or die. It's your choice. Complaining about it to us serves no purpose other than to stroke your own ego. Pretending the story was void of any merit just because you can't accept a story that did not strictly adhere to your preconceived notions is just as bad. While we're enjoying the new direction 343i is taking the game, you people can keep convincing yourselves that you're objectively right. I, at least, no longer care. The incessant -blam!- ing about this game has gone beyond nitpickers stroking their own opinions to convince themselves they're right, and has just entered territory of idiotic stagnation.

The community has turned into a cesspool of bickering and arguing for the sake of arguing. The truly tragic loss in the wake of Halo 4 is not the idealistic "Halo of the past," but the community's sense friendliness. Yes there's always been complaining about trivial things throughout the franchise's history, but this is different; the amount of people on this forum who just don't friggin' get the point about the story or how it works, or the people who are just too friggin' immature to accept change and just have fun with what you have is depressing. There is a difference between having an opinion and discussing your issues with the game, and saying the game just overall blows and that 343i ruined it. Once you deal in that kind of absolute, or once you resort to petty insults against 343i, your opinion is no longer valid.

The only alternative is that these people are just that damn short-sighted they legitimately could not see these kinds of big changes coming. And that is an alternative I don't want to think about, because I don't like to consider the thought that the community I've loved for almost a decade now is just that stupid.

Founder of Team Reclaimer where we specialize in Big Team Battle and Invasion games. We are all about Communication, Dedication and Fun.

This is the most conflicted I have ever been regarding a game. Halo IS my favorite video games series. The time I have poured into it and it's extended universe is unreal. No other game has received even close to the amount of time and care I have put into Halo. If any other game brought so much negativity towards my view of it, I'd have no problem getting rid of it and forgetting it. I keep trying to tell myself that I will like Halo 4, because I like Halo. It's a horrible feeling, and I wish it would pass. I have a pretty damn good idea of what Halo 4 did so wrong that made me not want to play, but that deep down Halo fan inside of me doesn't want to quit the series. At the same time, I really don't want to be stuck in the past, playing old Halo's forever, I can't do that anymore. I can't repeatedly play the old games just to get my fix. It's 1 part nostalgia, and 1 part love for what Halo used to be that would make me throw the old games back into my console. I don't like the feeling of having to say goodbye to the franchise, but I keep feeling like I am moving that way, and it makes sad.

No it's Halo. Whether you think it is or not doesn't matter. Your just some spoiled little kid sitting on a computer that thinks his opinion is the words of a prophet and that millions of people hang on your every word because your that important. The truth is your not. Your just some kid who hates a game because it doesn't meet his expectations and goes on the internet to wine about so he can find other people who hate it and it makes you feel like your opinion is valid. You payed your $60 to 343 and that's all they care about. You can sit here on BUNGIE's site (they didn't make the game why do they care what you have to say?) and complain until your blue in the face and it will never matter.

Can we be friends?

I'll bring the tritium laser cutters if you bring the beer!

Funny story.

You can't claim that someone should adapt or die because the game is going in a new direction and then disagree with what the OP is saying.

Be consistent people.

See this is why Halo can't really evolve because the fans are so scared of change. Its seems like most of the changes to the franchise has been hated. Its funny too because most of the people on this site make fun of COD for being the same game every year.

"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.

I was a finalist :P

I myself do not see replayability in Halo 4's story unless I'm with friends who want to play it themselves. There are a few points which were completely left unexplained, yet they were important with regard to story. One such main point which I've bought up before is the formation of the Storm Covenant - not one mention about why they formed, at all. All you get is a seven word cliche by Cortana attempting to give some motive as to why, not even what, could happen. You'd think the Chief would ask Lasky or Del Rio? Of course not, but if you've read the novels, you'd understand why they formed. Developers shouldn't rely on fans delving deeper into the lore to act as a prerequisite for understanding what's going on. That's why I can see it being the worst campaign for some people.

Halo has been evolving. Now, 343 just pulled some Freaky Friday -blam!- and turned Halo into Call of Duty.

I completely agree, the Didact is an awful character if you only know about him from Halo 4.

I think it's also funny that the COD players don't mind having the same game every year. In fact they actually want it. When MW3 was about to come out I heard a COD fan say that they would be just fine with something like MW2 but having all of the mistakes fixed.

I never played MW3 but I think the COD fans got exactly what they wanted.

Be sure to tell everyone how cool you are. If you don't tell them, they won't know.

But don't we all just hate change?

"When you say mean things, your weenie will shrink."

-Marshall Mathers, 2004

My opinion-

Halo 4 is not a fun game to play. Every time I put in the disk and go into "War games", I keep looking through the playists trying to find one to play (Not to mention the new -blam!- menus). In each halo, I had different reasons for picking playlists, in H3, I would try to get 50s in playlists. In reach, I met choose grifball to get a challenge. In H4, Ill look through the playlists for 5 minutes without particulary wanting to play any, eject the disk, and put in AC3.

343 butchered almost all the best gametypes of halo. "Flood" suffers from a bad CoD type lag, with infected players almost always getting from the grave kills with a goddamn sword. Where the -blam!- is some good old FFA? Regicide is terrible.

Each halo had its own feel with campaign. CE it was discovery, in H2 it was a sort of mysterious feel while playing as the arbiter and in H3 it was a climactic sense of urgency. Halo 4 feels like a rushed action movie sequel. You know what I mean? The sequel were everything was taken care of in the first movie, all the loose ends tied up, but then they throw out a sequel were the main character has kids and the villains son from the first one is out to get him because the writer didnt feel like making a new one.

Point is, I want to love it, but they make it too hard. There was absolutely no need to copy you-know-what for all the multiplayer ideas. Halo is one of the most established gaming franchises. Why did they feel the need to put in killcams, care packages (ordanance drops, dont deny it...), perks and custom classes.

I would have much rather would have played Halo 3.5 then call of halo 4.

You're like a slinky. Good for nothing, but you bring a smile to my face when I push you down the stairs.

But it has Halo in the title.

I will break it down for you all, as I agree with the OP. The story is crap. It's generic, forced, and repetitive. I have had a desire to replay every Halo game many times, not Halo 4. I care about none of the new characters, and the ones I did care about are nothing like they were in the past trilogy. Chief doesn't stop talking through the campaign and Cortana goes from broken but useful AI to useless and annoying blue lady. The whole bit at the end with Lasky makes no sense "You don't talk much do you?", where did that come from? He never stops talking during the story.

Let's look past the armor canon and of course the Forward Unto Dawn remodel, which are too obvious to even be worth describing. Instead lets look to the music. How can any of you argue for a second that music like this sounds anything like this. Davidge's music is all over the place. I have no clue what the Halo 4 theme is supposed to be, my best guess is 117, seeing as it's the only song played more than once in the campaign. Sadly Davidge didn't even compose it.

Basically. It just didn't feel the same to me this time. The game, to me at least, just wasn't as good as the others. Maybe they pick it back up next time, but almost every part of this game was disappointing to some degree.
