Think before you post

I was re-reading the Halo 3 terminals and I feel like it contradicts the events in Halo 4. In the terminals it makes it seem like the Didact was on the Ark, firing the Halos while the Librarian stranded herself on Earth. However, in Halo 4 it seemed like the Didact was imprisoned on Requiem before the Halo's were fired.

I didn't read the newer books, but am aware that there are Ur-Didact and Bornstellar(?) Didact. Could this confusion have something to do with the difference between the two?

UR-Didact = Ugly, evil Didact on Requiem.

Born Steller is my bro Didact = Good, less ugly Didact that was on the Ark

Unconfirmed. I think that Bornstellar Didact could be the Didact in Halo 4, as evidenced by his flashy armour which might make him look like a Builder.

He was strongly implied to be Bornstellar, but yeah, it's unconfirmed.

OT: because retcons.

Dafuq are you 2 smoking???

1. Born steller Didact fired the halo rings, how could he have done that if he was locked up???

2. We see in the terminals the same didact fighting humans, long before born steller was born, and the same didact being locked up.

3. Born steller Didact does not hate humans like UR-didact does, he wouldn't start randomly killing humans.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

I guess this is considered a "retcon" since the UR didact didn't hate humans. He anger stemmed from the loss of his children more than anything else.

And the part where he finds out that humans were destined to take up the Mantle, not Forerunners, which would reasonably be seen as an injustice by him since hye thought us to be aggressive animals. And the part where Forerunners were seen as such comparable failures that the Precursors wanted to erase them. And how the Librarian--his own wife--shot him twice and imprisoned him for 100,000 years to save these people he didn't even like to begin with since they committed genocide against Forerunner and kind of wiped out his whole family and turned his wife against him. And than there's the practical issue with humans, that they're readily available for Composition to fight the returning Flood threat.

Yeah, Didact doesn't hate humans at all.

You might want to read where i said "retcon".

The Didact Did not Hate humans he looked down on their aggression but didn't hate them as he understood WHY they were actually attacking the forerunners. Even after the war he reflects on how he would have acted before hand had he known or the outcome had they been full force and wanted to wipe them out.

We see During the entire novel of cryptum that he wasn't going on some spree to wipe out humanity nor did he constantly berate them, he even called them brethren. As i said before he was more made about the loss of his children and how the time with his family had been so brief.

The Original Didact doesn't know about anything that happened in Primordium (currently) that was all Bornstellar.

His wife shot him because he overstepped his boundaries by going to her ring and composing her specimens which she was highly found of. She didn't shoot him purely over the humans but the fact he was serious willing to even do such a thing which goes against the mantle itself!

What "returning flood threat"? He has absolutely no reason to think the flood should ever return as of current canon.

Haven't read the books, forgive me for any misinformation.

I was under the impression the the Master Builder (Faber?) killed the Ur-Didact, who transposed his very being into Bornstellar.

So, why is Ur-Didact now considered alive, and if Bornstellar-Didact was on the Ark, why did he make no appearance in Halo 3?*

*I know that Halo 3 came out way before Greg Bear's books, so he couldn't have been in Halo 3, but then why has tis never been accounted for?

He didn't initially hate humans, but the way he sees it, they unleashed the flood, they turned his wife against him, they killed his family, and now they want to take his place in the galaxy. After brooding for 100,000 years he has likely gone insane and blaims humanity for everything bad that has happened to him. He is no longer the same person as he was in Cryptum. This isn't a retcon, just a fall to the dark side.

According to the plot summary of Silentium, Faber stranded him on a flood-infested world, he didn't directly execute him. And while it is likely, based on what we know happens to the Ur-didact in the terminals, that the bornstellar-didact activated Halo from the ark, and was who was in the Halo 3 terminals, he clearly has either died, or left the Ark since then.

"Living in the past is a luxury none of us can afford..."
"I know what the ladies like..."

At the moment it's unconfirmed who's who, but in Cryptum I remember reading about how the sudden "transformation" caused Bornstellar to look uglier than usual. That's what I based myself on to think that the Didact from Halo 4 was the Bornstellar Didact.

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

They should totally rename him 'Bro-Didact'

OT: There are two Didacts, so yeah, one of them was on the Ark (could have been either of the 2 Arks?), and one of them is the Didact in Halo 4.

Knowing 343, it's probably Bornstellar, simply because they love killing off or tarnishing good characters.

Besides, the Ur Didact was showing signs of relinquishing his hate while the Bornstellar was troubled by the Primordidal's revelations. We have to remember, the Bornstellar we all know and love is almost no more; he thinks he's the Didact, possibly the original one.
