Yeah, but Bungie also never stays this dark this close to the official announcement. With every game they have ARGs or some kind of countdown, something for us to do. With less than two weeks to go, I think it's relatively safe to say that Bungie isn't announcing their new game at the VGA's.

That, or they've had a fundamental change in the way they announce games to us, and they're just going to be as lame as every other game company out there. Which wouldn't surprise me, but I'd like to cling to some hope for the future.
Well quite honestly there's already been a fundamental change in how they announce games. It's not a Halo game for one. That a fundamental change over a decade in the making.

If they do have an ARG it would probably be after we at least have an idea of what the game fundamentally is after a teaser trailer or something. Launching a whole new IP is radically new ground here.

I personally give it a slight chance. Those little twitter tidbits and with release supposedly less than a year away that they'd need to get some buzz going... however that "see you in 2013" I feel is the strongest indication so far and is pretty clear.

I somewhat have to laugh at people thinking it will be at E3. You really think they would reveal a game within like 3-4 months of release? This isn't some Kinect Sesame Street game.
What if they had a Teaser at the VGA which kicks off an ARG that lasts till halfway through January?

I think that they would show it at the VGAs since it is on the 7th, Bungie's favorite number. Also the idea that it is darkest before the dawn. DeeJ has stopped doing the mailsacks since they are hard at work, meaning they could be working on getting ready to present it while keeping us in pitch black.

I'm honestly not holding my breath. At first we thought that it would be shown a E3, we were wrong. Then we assumed tha it old be shown at PAX (it is very close to Bungie HQ after all) and we were wrong. However, I'll be watching, you never really know with Bungie.

I think it would be awesome if Bungie had a contract with a few major city's new years displays had someone customer make a seventh pillar firework display followed by the Destiny Logo. just saying for all the gamers out there that would be incredibly AWESOME, and would make some news reals around the world.... make it happen Bungie ;)

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

Hmmm... When it comes to unvailing a product, there usually are two or more steps in the process. First we have the announcement teaser; which usually is a proof of concept, then the trailer; which reveals the actual product.

It has got out of hand nowadays however; teasers for teasers, etc, but I have a feeling that one of the reasons Bungie's gone dark, is so that they can reveal Destiny in a way that they feel comfortable with; maybe going dark is a way for them to show how they feel about the industry's current trend of constant teasing; something that for many inivitably waters down the experience of a product as a whole?

If they go the classic teaser and trailer way, theyll need two grand opportunities (one for each).

Maybe the VGA for the teaser and the e3 for the trailer?

E3 is way too late to reveal a huge game that is coming out that very same year.

Huh, didn't I suggest that it might be revealed at the VGA, and then have a trailer at the e3? :P It wouldn't be the first time that's happened. Plus, if Destiny is released after the e3, wouldn't it have a trailer or in-game walkthrough or something there, no matter if it's announced before?

Unvailing Destiny too close to the next Xbox, however, might hurt how the game is perceived. Its graphics might be eclipsed, which could lead to the game being unfairly overlooked (you know how the masses are). Also, releasing something at the end of a cycle isn't the smartest thing to do since a huge amount of people tend to hold back and wait for the next cycle to begin.

It's a tricky situation. The best way would be to get people used to seeing and knowing the game before the next-gen storm begins.

If I got to choose; Bungie would completely ignore the expos and unvail it when they saw fit, and have other trailers, etc, at various expos thereafter.

A teaser wouldn't be a real "reveal" what I mean is showing the game off for the first time at E3 would be WAY to late.

Also if I remember correctly wasn't it said in the contract they had with Activision that the first game would be released on both the 360 and the next xbox?

That would be cool, though 'twould be nought more than a teaser if so. I still hope that they'll announce it on 21st December juuuust before the world is supposed to end...then BAM! Destiny...

It depends on the footage really, what they show. If they announce Destiny with something similar to Halo 3's or Reach's reveal videos (whatever they're classed as), they'll do just fine, especially if it's followed up by a ViDoc.

I think Bungie will gain more if they announce it in a way that is tailored to the game's advantage, opposed to following conventions.

I also read something about it being released on both consoles, but I think that's a horrible decision, probaby inevitable because of the circumstances, but still horrible. Far too many would decide to wait if they knew they could be playing what they'd think would be a better game, and the new consol would surely have its own advantages (more extensive OS) which would make playing the game on it a more exciting experience. I hope the first game is for one gen alone. Don't allow a lot of convoluted systematics steal the spotlight just because its released in the end of a cycle.

Maybe the VGA for the teaser and the e3 for the trailer?
I think the precise reason that they didn't show us a Teaser at the last E3 was so that we wouldn't be sitting on our hands for six months blindly speculating based off of two minutes of footage.

That is true, but wouldn't blind speculation be the case in most cases anyway? In order to avoid that, they'd either have to reveal sufficient amount of footage/information (which might be too much/water out the exp), or announce it very late...

I think Bungie are doing everything in their power to not overexpose, and overhype the fiction, and instead let us see it for what it is when it is realeased. Although.. If the game is announced too late, it won't have time to catch on; accumulate a big enough batch of preorders.

I think six months is a kind of a sweet spot to tease with. If it's released in the autumn, the VGA would be an ok choice, not ideal, but ok. Ideal would be at GDC or about the same time (we all know what Jones thinks of the GDC...). But the exact release date is still unknown (right?) so idk..

Geoff Keighley just tweeted this:

http://twitter.com/geoffkeighley/status/273591783844356097

I'm %100 percent sure that he's referring to Destiny. Also said before, Geoff said that the VGA will have a "sneak at the next-generation of gaming". Destiny IS a title for the Xbox 720, so... could he have referring to Destiny?

I'm now %100 sure Destiny will be at the VGAs. I'm hyped!

We know it is coming out in 2013, so it being shown this year makes sense with Bungie's past, they haven't announced a game the year it came out since they were a Mac dev. E3 2013 would be WAY too late to reveal the game. The VGA's, despite being terrible, are huge and have had many huge game reveals before and Bungie themselves released the first real Reach trailer there. I think the VGA's would be the perfect time to reveal the game, have a Gameinformer article some time early next year and have the huge blow out start at E3 and maybe even fit a beta in there somewhere. This coupled with Bungie teasing on twitter a lot recently and the VGA's being on the 7th, I'd say all the stars are aligned for a VGA reveal.

That being said I also wouldn't get your hopes up just in case it isn't there.
I agree I think the chances are pretty favorable but Im not gonna expect much.

99.99 percent now, based on Geoff's tweets the other day and after this leak was revealed.

Zero. E3 2013 is my bet.

Agreed! This is what I'm guessing as well.

Well Bungie did say "We weren't quite ready, but we will be soon," and E3 2012 doesn't seem soon if you know what I mean. I bet at least a trailer in december hopefully.

In my humble opinion: we will get a tease at the VGA. E3 is where the crazy awesomeness will occur.

Bungie next will not occur until the Bungie Day.

I have spoken.

Contrarily, my first intuition is that the game will have a VGA trailer. It's coming out in freakin' 2013!
