because of the fact that the sun is expanding, and will dry up all water within the next couple million years, and if that doesn't kill us a couple billion years later the sun will consume earth. yes, a million years seems long, but it's nothing compared to the expanse of the universe.
First off, no, Earth's last organisms will likely die in about two billion years (1.5 billion is right around the time human life will become completely impossible), but not as a result of the Sun's transition into the Red Giant phase. Earth will most certainly still be a water-covered planet in a few million years assuming there's no cataclysmic event in between now and then.
Second, I don't understand how this is relevant whatsoever. We're talking about December 21st, 2012.
