Get a Lotus Exige or Elise with a supercharged engine.
Trust me, if I had around 50 grand to just blow, I would.

Lurking since 2009

Personally id go for the 350z, its an incredibly sexy car and probably the fastest on the list. It will also be pretty easy to maintain and from what i hear they are easy to mod too if your going to do that kind of stuff. Its definitely the one i would choose.

  • 11.25.2012 7:48 PM PDT

The Nissan 350Z will do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, the Mustang GT will do it in 5.2 seconds and the Audi will do it in 6.2. Going on practicality here, wouldn't the Mustang be the best? More room, 4 seat, big trunk. The only advantage the other cars might have is more MPG's, and probably not to much depending on how you drive.

EDIT: A 2005 350Z might be a little slower at 5.7 from what I just looked up.

Practicality wise, it's probably down to the Mustang and the 350z. I love Audi, and I'd love to own one but now just may not be the time. Maybe one day when I'm older and have more money, I could afford a newer, better Audi.

The fact that the Mustang is bigger might help with insurance and the maintenance and the actual purchasing of the car would be much easier and cheaper for me.

The Nissan, though...It's just, I don't know. Sexy.

  • 11.25.2012 7:55 PM PDT

I would hold off on the Audi, to expensive right now. Wait until you can really afford one and get a S or RS version of whatever model, that'll be better.

Don't buy a car just because it looks good, that could be a huge mistake if you base it off just that. Do you plan to take people places and carry things around?

Just one and no.

  • 11.25.2012 8:01 PM PDT

Then I would go test drive the Mustang and 350Z and see what feels better. Just keep your eyes out for other cars to, you never know what you'll find.

I drive Mustangs everyday (part of my job), I just need to drive the 350z.

Thanks again for the input.

I'm an Anarchist. I don't need a government to be a good person, but I'm glad it's here because some of you clearly do.

Have you considered a Honda S2000? If cargo space and grocery-getter practicality are not a huge concern, this would be your best best for bang for your buck by a long shot.

I have, yes. It was one of the firsts I considered, but sadly, none whatsoever in my area :/ By none, I mean no affordable ones, btw.

I am keeping an eye out for one it one were to pop up, though.

Even better is a 300ZX, friend picked one up with a mistimed engine, rebuilt it for a few hundred, now he has a 300hp beast
I've owned one for a few years now, and unless your friend is a wizard, one does not simply rebuild a 300ZX's engine for a casual "couple hundred". You have to have a serious passion to own one, even something as simple as changing spark plugs and running a compression test becomes pulling fuel rails and this and that and taking off the entire balance tube and on and on ...

First time I pulled my plenum to do a water bypass because -blam!- heater core hoses .. that was a fun weekend.

But yes, assuming you have a strong platform to work on, great engines that can put out a ton of hp. Intake, exhaust, and a new ecu will push you into 400 easily.

The only downfall to them is how goddamn heavy they are, but you don't even feel it when the turbos spool and pull you in your seat, even stock.

However, as much as I love them, if you have the money, get an RB26. Work of goddamn art that engine. If I didn't find such a pristine example of a Z I would have imported a skyline, they have them lined up like goddamn flies over in Japan just ready to jump on a boat.

The TTs aren't to expensive to relative to most cars. Granted, they are nicer than most cars and will come with higher end components. The 350z would be my next choice

They're awesome cars, especially the ones with the LS1 in them. Their interiors may be a bit plasticy but they're bloody nice cars. I would own an f-body Tran's Am or Camaro over a new one. Also OP I recommend getting something that you can work on yourself. You'll save loads of cash if you do the work yourself.

What doesn't kill you, only makes you stranger

If you can get your hands on a Subaru WRX STI or even just the WRX you'll have a little bit more space, and an incredibly reliable car.

Subaru is where it is at, specially the STI.
-4 cylinder (great mileage)
-AWD (great traction and acceleration)
-Sounds like a beast
-it's turbocharged
-the old sedans look awesome and are in your price range

They were actually one of the first cars I looked into, as well. Sadly, none to be found in a relatively close distance.

I was recommended a Camaro earlier in the thread. I've yet to look into them, yet. Thanks.

I recommend 98 and up. They have better engines.
