Even better is a 300ZX, friend picked one up with a mistimed engine, rebuilt it for a few hundred, now he has a 300hp beastI've owned one for a few years now, and unless your friend is a wizard, one does not simply rebuild a 300ZX's engine for a casual "couple hundred". You have to have a serious passion to own one, even something as simple as changing spark plugs and running a compression test becomes pulling fuel rails and this and that and taking off the entire balance tube and on and on ...
First time I pulled my plenum to do a water bypass because -blam!- heater core hoses .. that was a fun weekend.
But yes, assuming you have a strong platform to work on, great engines that can put out a ton of hp. Intake, exhaust, and a new ecu will push you into 400 easily.
The only downfall to them is how goddamn heavy they are, but you don't even feel it when the turbos spool and pull you in your seat, even stock.
However, as much as I love them, if you have the money, get an RB26. Work of goddamn art that engine. If I didn't find such a pristine example of a Z I would have imported a skyline, they have them lined up like goddamn flies over in Japan just ready to jump on a boat.
