I liked the flood better in Halo 1 then in Halo 2. In halo 2, I never really got the feeling of being swarmed by a brainless parasite. In Halo 1, taking on entire hallways of flood were some of the best moments in the game. Now there are hardly any carrier forms, and even less infection forms.
I personally was unhappy with the stupidity of the Flood in H1. I could not believe they posed a threat to the universe. They were too dumb to drive a warthog, let alone a space ship. H2's Flood levels gave me a sense of desperation. In Sacred Icon, you watched as the sterile, bright rooms of the Wall transformed into the foggy hell of the Quarantine Zone. High Charity was much worse, bloated Flood mounds loomed out of the darkness and Gravemind proudly announced the bright center of the Covenant was now his grave.
Judging by how they keep getting smarter, I believe in H3 you will have to beat Gravemind at writing poetry to save the galaxy.
