Subject: Police Officer Loses Job After Losing Temper.

@Helveck

Just an Average Joe...

I'm about to link an article that I'm curious to hear many opinions on. Due to my history of work, and my education, I would like to think that I am somewhat knowledgable in the area of Use of Force. Use of Force is educational training that Police Officers and even many Security Officials are subject to before beginning their jobs. There is even a scale that is shown and this scale dictates which type of force is to be used or is suitable in certain situations.

This article shows a male Police Officer in the UK exercising a Use of Force technique on a minor, that had already been a nuisance to both the Community and Police before. I have been put in this position before, and it is very painful. But it is used as a compliance measure, and is used very often in the Policing world in order to hold someone or gain their compliance. It is a lot kinder than a pepper spray, or a taser, that much is certain.

And while it seems a bit much for the young lad, most might assume that the matter would end there. Well, that just isn't so... The Officer received a massive backlash, was sent to court, and in the thick of it all ended up quitting his position after a decade of policing with a clean record. These consequences are only a portion of the mess he then found himself in following this incident, so I encourage you to read the entire article.

A delinquent, who had many run-ins with the law previously, wasted the time of Officers, and was hurt while Officers attempted to gain his compliance. When an Officer acted, the Community fired back, claiming the Officer "lost his temper". The young lad them submitted a complaint, which basically turned an Officers life upside down, and now that boy is likely to brag to all of his friends about how he cost an Officer his job. Not only that, but the law is unlikely to act in the same way they might otherwise have to this individual now in the future, after having seen the mess that a single complaint from him caused.

The kid won on all fronts, and will probably even have his family sue the department and or Officer for a large settlement.

So I find myself asking... The majority of a region in a country, felt this Officer overreacted and lost his temper, and that his treatment of this boy was disgusting, but were they all wrong? I know the incident hurt the boy, but should the community not have scorned the boy instead? Or are we becoming too soft? Was the Officer out of line? Or did he act as he should?

What do you guys think?

I can't remember the exact story, but wasn't there a case in Murica where 2 policemen gave a victim (who couldn't talk as he had had acid poured into his skull) unknowingly back to his murderer. They were fired, then appealed the decision and are now in some pretty high jobs.

Either way I'm surprised this man was fired but the guys who tasered the blind man for no reason seem to be off the hook.

Seems fine to me, and I don't see why anyone, even the most critical of police, would say otherwise.

Neither probable cause nor a warrant were mentioned in the article (though it's possible I just didn't see it and maybe those aren't even necessary in the UK). If they had one of the two, I'd argue that this officer just did what was necessary.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Well he used aggressive force

The kid might have been a fool but it says he was 4 feet and 8 inches.. no need for a pain restraint on someone that size.

He wouldn't empty his pockets.
I'd understand putting someone in a position that is supposed to caue discomfort if they pose a threat or at least are being threatening, but a <5 foot 15 year old outnumbered 4 to 1 being put forcibly put into that position for not emptying his pockets? -blam!- that

Remember the retarded guy who was beat to death in front of his dad in California last year(ish)? That's one town over from me. This kid getting scuffed is so minor it doesn't even deserve any more than an apology, if that.

So what would you prefer?

He was asked repeatedly to empty his pockets and didn't comply and then avoided police contact when they tried to search him while he stood there.

So what then? He has to be restrained in some way if he is struggling and/or denying a legal search request.

Recon Number 54 -
If they are still looking, then while holding the snarl, I let drool start to drip from my mouth, I stand, curl my fingers into claws and with a hunched over crouch, I then make slow and deliberate steps towards them. When I get close enough, I let them hear my agonized and gasping growls and then, if they continue to stare, when I get within arm's reach? I kiss them on the nose, and run away giggling.

It is appalling that the officer lost this case. The 15 year old is going to grow up into another scumbag who behaves like a rat and breeds like one.

I am sick of teenage thugs giving the rest of the age group a bad name.

You can restrain him, sure. No need to lift him off his feet though. You can use the required amount of force to restrain a 4 foot 8 child or you can get angry and hurt him.
The copper opted to get angry and hurt him.

lol no it isn't.
A Police Officer keeps the peace and enforces the law. Individual discipline is not within their realms of responsibility. They can act if a lack of discipline is preventing their legal duty, but they have no right to teach discipline
