If the prisoner raped and killed over 70 people, he's probably gonna be put in solitary confinement or locked up in a psych ward where he can't hurt anyone.
Prisoner is only 20 and is in very good shape. We waste taxpayer money on him for 60 years. What if he's imprisoned in a state of one of his victims? We're now wasting that family's money to keep him alive for 60 years.

Uhh, it costs much more money to execute a criminal than to keep them in for life. Why waste more taxpayer money on killing a single person when letting them rot in prison forever with no chance of parole is much cheaper?

Time and money go into executing a criminal. They have to go through court multiple times, parole board, then making that expensive "humane" way of killing them by lethal injection. A bullet to the face isn't really considered humane.

tl;dr: Killing a criminal is much more expensive than keeping them in for life because of all the processes they have to go through to get killed. Killing a criminal is much more of a waste of money than keeping them in a box forever.

I've always found the lethal injection to be retarded, as it is actually extremely painful and known for being screwed up mid-execution and causing ridiculous pain. Just sever the brainstem high up and it's instantaneous, painless death.

No crime. There is too many variables, and there have many many cases where the wrongly accused have been on death row, or worse, already dead.

So long as the judicial/prison system is funded by tax money collected from the people, there should be no death penalty.

Its like paying to murder somebody you don't even know.

An episode of Penn and Teller's Bull-blam!- about the death penalty explains it better.

None. Nobody has the right to exercise the ability to take another person's life.

I don't believe criminals should get it off easy though. More rights should be stripped from them. Inmates get treated like first class residents nowadays.

The cake is a pie

In my opinion, criminality is no different to a mental or even pathological disease, in that we do not choose to catch it, and that we cannot simply cure ourselves of it. I think that almost no cases would deserve death with this interpretation. However, if a criminal 'cannot be cured', and there is no hope for them, then perhaps death would be better for them.

  • 11.27.2012 1:03 PM PDT

None. Crime is an irrational concept caused because of material deprivation or emotions. And everyone is prone to it. You cannot control crime with primitive methods of execution. The only way to deal with crime is to combat the root causes.

A vast majority of the money spent is actually just court costs. The lethal injection isn't that expensive, relatively speaking.

I am for the death penalty; just not in the way it's enacted here in America.

In my opinion, none.

Here's my view on it. If we kill the criminals than we are no better than the criminals themselves.

Imagine you are a murder and are on trial, which sounds worse too you. A death penalty that will humanly end your life . With this you get a free meal of choice before your death.

Or, you get a life sentance. With this you will have to spend most, if not the rest of your life in prision. There you will be kept iunder close watch, not allowed to leave, given crappy food. You will probably hate everyone there and they will hate you too. To top it off you just, can't, leave. You're trapped. You won't ever see the outside of those prision walls.

When you compare the two, the death sentance seems like the lighter punishment.
