Some people debate that 18-year-olds can go to war, but not drink an alcoholic beverage.

Some people just want to be allowed to drink younger, recreationally.

Personally, I never intend to touch a bottle o'Jack in my entire life; but what do you guys think?

Should it be changed to 18? If it is, what consequences could there be?

It's 18 in Quebec and Manitoba and 19 in the rest of Canada. We seem to be all right.

Talking about Sweden is an ultrabannable offense.

Too bad being completely and utterly wrong isn't a bannable offense.

But it is.

What's weirder, I'm allowed to have all kinds of sex at 16, yet I can't look at pictures of it until I'm two years older.

Wut?

If I ever get AIDS, I'm going to sleep with another AIDS person so my AIDS cancel each other out, or I'm going to make the AIDS I already have worse.

Covan was here, December 20th.

Come back later, after he's out of Parris Island.

Your country needs an efficient military, not a bunch of teenagers getting drunk.

Serving in the military is a choice - nobody is forcing you to join at age 18.

If it hurts you too bad, then those people who are actually in the military should be allowed to drink at 18.

I don't need no stinking signature!

The idea behind it is that you're brain isn't fully developed until you're 21, and drinking before that stunts mental developement.

However, throughout history and in places with low drinking ages, people more exposed and knowledgeable about alchohol are less likely to binge or become alcholics when they get older. That seems to work fine for Europe and Canada.

It's 18 in Alberta too.

Being alone.
You're a mod, you should be used to that.

Personally, I believe they should keep the age at 21 but reduce the age to 18 for military personnel.

Okay, by that logic, if you can pass through several months of rigorous training and certification, then you are welcome to drink alcohol.

They tried it before.

The amount of people my age killing themselves by drunk driving skyrocketed.

Also, medical reasons. Your brain does not fully develop until 21-25 years of age, before then, it can cause problems.

The sound of iron shocks is stuck in my head, The thunder of the drums dictates
The rhythm of the falls, the number of dead's the rising of the horns, ahead
From the dawn of time to the end of days I will have to run, away
I want to feel the pain and the bitter taste of the blood on my lips, again

Yes, I think it should be lowered back to 18.

Alcohol affects your brain negatively and can be detrimental while it is still developing if abused. Generally brains are done developing at age 25 and that's what I think the age should be. Why it's not still illegal is beyond me.

You shouldn't be allowed to drink if you're still in high school.

Graduate, and bam, drinking age.

  • 11.26.2012 7:44 PM PDT

For me it is and I don't think it's bad considering most of the drunk driving and alcoholism problems aren't in people between the ages of 18 and 21.
