The sound of iron shocks is stuck in my head, The thunder of the drums dictates
The rhythm of the falls, the number of dead's the rising of the horns, ahead
From the dawn of time to the end of days I will have to run, away
I want to feel the pain and the bitter taste of the blood on my lips, again

Serving in the military is a choice - nobody is forcing you to join at age 18.

Men have to register for selective service at eighteen. Technically you could be sent to die in a war before you can have a beer.

Now before you say anything, I know the draft hasn't been used in decades, and probably won't be used anytime soon. I'm speaking hypothetically.

No, because there are 18 year-olds who are still in high school, and therefore younger high school students will have easier access to alcohol through them.

You're a mod, you should be used to that.

For the people using the ," Well, 18 year olds are fighting in wars and are in the military" as a argument, please stop. You can't use that argument if you aren't those people, let the soldiers complain about it. I 100% believe that 18 year olds in the military should be able to drink.

Life?
I have the internet and Doctor Who; i don't need a life.

But it is.

What's weirder, I'm allowed to have all kinds of sex at 16, yet I can't look at pictures of it until I'm two years older.

Wut?
yeah i always found that strange too.

So, this baby seal walks into a club...

In regards to the idea of the 18 y/o legal age for military personnel... I don't think that would be a great idea because it would suddenly become a recruiting pitch. I think there would be people who wouldn't join for the sake of joining, they'd just join for the "legal alcohol".

I mean, not that the military has enough recruiting pitches as is. Maybe it would be a good thing? Or not, considering the budget cuts and force reduction.

Am I joining the armed forces at age 18?

Am I going to be a recruit in the military at age 18?

That's all I want to know. As of right now, I don't have a 'do or die' situation regarding the military.

Mass media, Mass pessimism, Mass Denial.
My television tells me to panic, but I don't think I'll listen.
The apathetic force us to persevere, with their backwards priorities.

I think the legal adulthood should be set to 20. All Adult responsibilities then take effect. War, alcohol, etc.

I think it would make sense to lower the drinking age or raise the draft age to 21+.

Alcohol affects your brain negatively and can be detrimental while it is still developing if abused. Generally brains are done developing at age 25 and that's what I think the age should be. Why it's not still illegal is beyond me.

Because people like drinking, most people drink, and most people who drink are responsible about it. So when you make it illegal you create a black market and cartels for it, which are pretty much impossible for the government to shut down. Prices are driven up, the producers are not under any kind of regulation to ensure the products are safe, and rivalries between criminals causes real violence.

If you want to help society, start by attacking the things that drive people to drug and alchohol abuse in the first place, like poor economic equality and avaliablity of treatment for mental illnesses.

Implying people under 21 don't easily get alcohol anyway. Despite this, people underage still see alcohol as limited for them and are just more likely to binge drink.

I personally think that it would work if they made it where 18 year olds who actually are in the military get to drink.

HYFR

But there should still be zero tollerance while driving till you are 21.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

Nope.

It should be 24-25 because that's when your brain fully develops.

So, just because it is not exactly healthy for you , you think the government has the right to say ," Hey, you can't have that because you're damaging your body even though it is your life-choice"?

But fatty foods shouldn't be limited despite much more popular and common health concerns that can actually lower your life expectancy?

This same thing applies to stuff like cigarettes.

The government doesn't make the legal smoking age 24-25.

(I don't think. correct if wrong.)

So you can't drink until three years after you get a Bachelor's degree (Assuming you go to college right after high school)?

I don't see how that's reasonable. Let's say I have a Bachelor in Nursing. I'm qualified and trusted to work in an ER, but I can't be trusted with a beer?

Some people debate that 18-year-olds can go to war, but not drink an alcoholic beverage.

It doesn't make sense even if you try to legitimize it. So quit trying. Its a stupid law and you know it.

Well, you have to look at it from all angles.

Drinking can be hazardous to your health, where as we all need as many people in ERs as possible.

Didn't you know that taking human life is less important and dangerous than potentially being an idiot and over-drinking alcohol (which you can easily do underage anyway)?
