GOAT

If I was a legislator, I'd push for making the drinking age 18, but the purchasing age would remain 21.

Covan was here, December 20th.

Come back later, after he's out of Parris Island.

Here's how I look at it:

Right now, you can't go out and 'purchase a case of beers' until you're 21, and probably in college and have a job and your own place to live.

People are arguing that you should be able to go out and 'purchase a case of beers' as early as 18, when you're technically still in high school.

So which one sounds better?

Personally, I do find it odd that you can join the military, be given a weapon and sent out to kill somebody on orders, but can't sip on some beers after your pal was just blown up.

On the other hand, I also can't see a good transition to allowing 18 year olds to drink. Here in the United States its just a rebellious thing than a responsible enjoyment. Considering the usually reckless behaviors of high schoolers as it is, I don't think it'd be a good idea. Most simply don't understand the damage alcohol can really do or know how to be responsible with it, and most are definitely NOT mature enough to handle it. Not that it's stopped anyone from drinking at younger ages, but the encouragement wouldn't be good. We've had the age set for 21 too long.

I find it odd that so many 18 year olds complain about being able to join the military, but not being able to drink - yet most of these 18 year olds aren't in the military anyway.

I graduated from HS way before I was eighteen... There are plenty of eighteen year olds who have jobs, and are working on their Associates degree.

So, eighteen sounds about right to me.

Making the legal age right when you move out on your own is a really poor decision. This is why the drinking age should be 25.

Because Muslims surgically implant organic bombs in their testicles, which in turn will be injected into women during sex, which will grow into BABY BOMBS!

If you can have sex, smoke and go to war, you can drink.

Please do not send me group invites.

I think you should be allowed to drink at 18, but must be 21 to purchase it.

I don't drink but my country doesn't have a legal drinking age, only a legal purchasing age which is 18.

I don't think it should be, although it is where I am. Personally I think the limit should be 25 but in my experience there is very little you can do to give people common sense. Most people I know have consumed alcohol before they were 18.

But there should still be zero tollerance while driving till you are 21.
Drinking and driving together = Bad idea anyways.

Drinking while intoxicated usually lands a person in jail. Even if they are 21.

For the people using the ," Well, 18 year olds are fighting in wars and are in the military" as a argument, please stop. You can't use that argument if you aren't those people, let the soldiers complain about it. I 100% believe that 18 year olds in the military should be able to drink.

How does that rule work if they're stationed in a country where you can drink at 18?

OT: No.
