Personally, I do find it odd that you can join the military, be given a weapon and sent out to kill somebody on orders, but can't sip on some beers after your pal was just blown up.
On the other hand, I also can't see a good transition to allowing 18 year olds to drink. Here in the United States its just a rebellious thing than a responsible enjoyment. Considering the usually reckless behaviors of high schoolers as it is, I don't think it'd be a good idea. Most simply don't understand the damage alcohol can really do or know how to be responsible with it, and most are definitely NOT mature enough to handle it. Not that it's stopped anyone from drinking at younger ages, but the encouragement wouldn't be good. We've had the age set for 21 too long.
I find it odd that so many 18 year olds complain about being able to join the military, but not being able to drink - yet most of these 18 year olds aren't in the military anyway.
