Talking about Sweden is an ultrabannable offense.

Too bad being completely and utterly wrong isn't a bannable offense.

18-year-olds can go to war, but not drink an alcoholic beverage.

This has never made sense.
What doesn't make sense is that I can look at my girlfriend naked but can't look at the same thing if it's a picture and will become a registered sex offender for the rest of my life if I get caught doing so.

Just... what.

This..

I think that people over 25 should be allowed to drink with no conditions and people under that (but over 18) should have a "drinking license" given to those how can act responsibly and have no alcohol related offences

Welcome to the town of "Diligence." I'm Mayor Due.

I was able to drink at 18. But in retrospect, it was an awful decision. I was one of the ones who went overboard way too much. I'd say 21 is a good age. Perhaps 18 at home under a parents watch.

Still better than you.

.....most of you, at least.

It is where I am, but that didn't stop my peers when they were 13. I doubt Americans are really all that different.

Well, in America, you don't really have all the benefits of being an adult until about age 25
lol

The Internet is an empowerment tool that's agnostic; it doesn't care about race, gender, or age.

I'm a stubborn guy. I love to argue my opinion, but unlike others, I'll try to see your side of the problem. I'm a triathlete, with a very heavy empephis on the swimming bit. Also, don't hate on the ~Quinton~ at the end of my posts. Why are you still reading this? #creeper #hashtagcashmoney for hashtaging on Bungie.net

It is legal to drink at 18.

Vegans never die they just regrow.

Here in Germany your allowed to drink beer when your 16, under supervision of your parents. Yes I drank beer when I was 16 in public with my dad, totally legal. When I got drafted to the military when I was 19, I already knew what it is like to be p$$&%$ to the max, so I kept my beer consumation on a very low level (2 beers a week), now I drink way les than the average german beer consumer.

I think you can drink at 18 as long as it's in your own home and if your parent gives you permission you just can't go out and can't buy alcoholic beverages.

Dam Delta, I read this whole thread to check if anyone had said that and you've beaten me to it.

Anyway my take is that higher drinking ages don't work as teens going through there rebelious stage will binge drink anyway. I mean we've all been there, out with your friend who was never allowed to drink and what do they do? They can't handle there drink and get as hammered as they can because it's such a new thing and 'cool' thing to them.

If a teen has been exsposed responsibly to alocohole by there parents, having a lower drinking age isn't a problem.

It is in certain parts of canada.

In quebec, manitoba and a few others it is.

The rest of canada is 19.

s'up, yo.

But yeah, outright bans until a complete open season is an insane stance.

  • 11.27.2012 9:29 AM PDT

in england, you can move out at 16, but not drink an alcoholic beverage (in any other situation than at home with a parent/guardian) or purchase one at all.

Multi-trillionaire modern cowboy.

That's right.

It's 16 in the Netherlands, though not for much longer.

  • 11.27.2012 9:40 AM PDT

Key

Thing is, even if a state wanted to do this kind of thing via a ballot initiative, they couldn't because the system in place would remove any federal funding of highways, roads, and bridges (IIRC).

The legal drink age (see title) is 5
The legal purchase age isn't the question :P

If you had an electron microscope, you still couldn't find the -blam!- I don't give.

If the government can have my ass hauled off to some unknown hell hole on the other side of the earth at 18, I should be able to drink at 18

  • 11.27.2012 12:45 PM PDT

Sure. They can drink in England so I don't see why not in America whereby you're allowed to have sex with 90 year olds and go to war to get shot in the face and have you legs torn off by shrapnel, I can't see why one should not be allowed to consume alcohol in a bar.
