Subject: 2012 worst year for gaming ever imo period!!!

Imho it's the best year yet for games. Although the 2012 releases may not be anything special, we still have all the games from the years preceding it.

Last year was much worse in my opinion. I can't really think of anything that was superb that came out in 2011.

I am a pharmaceutical scientist. I received my Masters degree in Pharmaceutics from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 2010, after working as a Pharmacist for 4 years. I currently work in King of Prussia, PA, and focus on the analytical chemistry of small molecule APIs. My clients include some of the most well known big pharma companies in the world.

I've enjoyed Hitman Absolution. I play it on the harder difficulties to keep a nice challenge going.

Clearly you weren't around in 1983. Nothing is as bad as E.T.

Witcher 2

Got me there. Don't care for the others.

I think you are confusing the 12 with an 11.

Serious Sam 3, Witcher 2

Along with Dark Souls, Shadows of the Damned, Catherine, Uncharted 3, (Ultimate) Marvel vs. Capcom 3, etc.

Last year was good, this year isn't quite as good, but it's not as horrible as everyone makes it seem. Branch out more, there were quite a few games that came out that are worth playing this year. Off the top of my head, some games I'd recommend from this year are Binary Domain, Dragon's Dogma, Xenoblade, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Persona 4 Arena, and Resident Evil Revelations. That's a pretty decent amount of good games, and it's not including a bunch of games I didn't play.

I don't always ban people but when I do I laugh uncontrollably...that's if I was a Forum Ninja.

Truth is a matter of perception.

The Button

What games have you been playing? All of the ones I've played have been good, some could have been better but for the most part they've been good.

Yeah, plus that whole crash thing that almost destroyed the gaming market.

I think by comparison 2012 was quite a good year for gaming...

Who's got AIDS?

Well, Dark Souls got its DLC this year so some parts of 2012 were good.

That's what happens when all you play is console games.

Oh, you've played and beaten it already? How long did it take you? I've found that the game is quite a bit more layered than Deus Ex; the challenge of taking out your targets 10 different ways leaves a ton to do in Hitman.

the crash wasn't as bad as people made it out to be, back then gaming had lower expectations, gaming has evolved since then and the fact that the gaming industry is throwing so much crap out is a joke especially since videogames have gotten better and better since the 90's now they just don't care anymore, personally i think the gaming industry is all about the money now, the days of top quality games are over.

Precisely. I have high hopes for the future of video gaming.

Honestly, with games like;
Bioshock Infinite
Metro: Last Light
Project Eternity
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs
Grand Theft Auto 5

Who wouldn't?
If Obsidian deliver with Project Eternity. I feel that alone will single-handedly raise the bar for RPGs again. It's promising to be on par with Baldur's Gate, Planescape and Icewind Dale. A game like that, in this market will be so amazing I personally think it will be game of the century. Planescape alone was such an amazing game, it's honestly left a permanent mark on me as a person. Chris Avellone is such a masterful writer the story of that game has honestly ruined a lot of other games for me.
I find my general standards of what a video game should have in it have been raised. I really don't like the 'casual fun' mindless shooting video games anymore.

Sorry about the wall of text, but I have high hopes for Project Eternity. It has potential to be a complete 10/10 masterpiece.

Or we're coming to the end of the console cycle, and as such there's less innovation than at the beginning, but the expectations have only gotten higher, to the point where it's currently almost impossible to meet them, put simply developers can only work with what they have but consumers expect the best which isn't particularly feasible at this stage, try to look at it from a dev's point of view, you'll understand why what you said is simply unfair.

Oh, and saying the Crash wasn't that bad is also not true, the industry almost fell apart, more likely you underestimate how bad it truly was.

Pootis

What? If anything this has got to be the best year for gaming. Loads of great games have come out this year, even more than in 2007 ( which people think as the "best gaming year" just for those 2 fps'). Plus, don't forget the hand-helds. Black and White 2 is possibly the greatest Pokemon game to have ever been released.

Bioshock and Halo 3?

Nah dude, 1998-2001 was the greatest era of gaming.

  • 11.27.2012 9:59 AM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Far Cry 3 seems like it's going to blow the disappointment away.

Although Journey was great.

i highly disagree, pokemon reached it's peak with gen 3, pokemon needs a new development team, genious sonarity gave the series new hope but since pokemon XD they've been in the dark for some reason. pokemon has been milked dryer than COD and thats saying something and i'm ashamed to even say so myself as i used to be a big pokemon fan but now it just doesn't feel as amazing as it did, could be that i grew out of it and i probably have but still pokemon colosseum and XD were awesome, diamond and pearl felt like a downgrade from pokemon XD to me.
