109=((8*10^4).5)v^2

square root of 109/((9*10^4).5)= velocity

Is 8 x 10^4 80000, or 800000?
80,000. Try to remember the transitions e.g 10^3 = 1000, 10^6 = 1,000,000, 10^9 = 1,000,000,000 etc. I find it helps loads.

Alright, I got the answer, but the answer in the book was in significant figures, so the answer was v=165m/s but the book said 1.7 x 10^2m/s.

My teacher said it's the same answer, and that the book worded it wrong.

we know it meant 170 m/s, but the equation doesnt give you 170 m/s, it gives you .52 or whatever

What? how did you get that?

obvious troll is obvious. take your tricks somewhere else.

109 J = 1/2*80000 v^2
109/40000=v^2
velocity = square root of 109/40000 = .052 m/s

We're not done with this. We have to figure this out.

i think we got trolled. its all a hoax. Read through his posts, he gets the same answer we do, somehow gets it right and gives an explanation that has nothing to do with the solution. Its a fake problem. OP should burn in hell.

Ah. I see. :(

Now go make me some tea.

No, wait! I said it wrong! it's 1.1 x 10^9 J not 109J! That was the second problem of the book.

Math checks out. Got 165.831.
