In a factory that made clothes for Wal-Mart.
A garment factory in Bangladesh, where the majority of workers were poorly-paid young women, caught fire on Saturday. At least a 112 people burned or jumped to their deaths when they found they were locked inside the building and the fire extinguishers were mere decorations. After looking through the remains, it was revealed that they were producing clothes for Wal-Mart stores, and at the time were put under extreme pressure to meet upcoming holiday demand.
15,000 Bangladeshian workers took to the streets in response, shutting down over 200 factories on monday, and vandalizing almost any business they thought might be mistreating their workers.
To be fair, Wal-Mart had nothing to do with the work conditions, just had a contract with the company from Bangladesh. Though things get schetchy when they try to claim they had ended the contract and were not aware they were still buying clothes from the company.
