The machinegun warthog and the Pelican, and maybe some other vehicles in halo1 &2 (i might have forgotten some) have some unrealistic weaponry. I'm blaming bungie, but i'm just pointing it out for them for halo 3. It is hard to do accurate research and make a game at the same time.

First- Machinegun Warthog

I tested the machinegun(minigun, vulcan cannon, wutever you want to call it) on the back to see how fast it fires. It fires 900rnds per minute, while miniguns would fire around 4000 rounds per minute. The minigun was used in fast moving vehicles to increase the amount of bullets hitting the target and increasing the probability of destroying it.

Fault -900 rounds per minute

Fix-increase firing rate

minigun

Second- Pelican

Two things, first the machinegun in the back and the chain gun in the front should be changed into a minigun. Modern helicopters use miniguns for reasons i've explained above. They fly about 200-300mph (give or take 50 miles), need miniguns to effectively hit targets on the ground. In the books, it saids the Pelican fly faster than the speed of sound. I think they would need a faster firing weapon, or else it would be almost impossible to hit the targets.

The flying mechanics isn't very realistic. I playing level cairo station in halo 2 and i jumped on top of a pelican in one of the parts. I SAW AIR INTAKES ON THE TOP. In the book, "first strike" it depicted that after halo was destroyed, masterchief found marines on a pelican in space and they flew it into a convenant flag ship. Correct me if i'm wrong because i don't really remember. If the engines need AIR INTAKES, how does it fly in space where there is not AIR.

Fault- Need miniguns

- WTF, AIR INTAKES
Fix- Change the weapons

- Remove the intakes

Pelican Intake

The air intakes are used for when it flies in the atmosphere of planets...

It probably has another means of propulsion for space and how did you get the firing rate of the warthog's turret?

Put pilots in side the pelicans! If you jump on a pelican and look in the front there are no pilots!

Did you ever heard the words "gameplay balance" and "fun"? No, Halo is not the most realistic game, but it's not the the way it has to be to be loved. There are other games like the Tom Clancy's games that are much more realistic, but not necessarily as fun as Halo.

The glass is one way you cant see in and even if you can, when have you jumped on the top of a moving Pelican and looked in the cockpit?!

The warthog holds 3 people. Why does it need something that fires that fast? It is senseless to have an expensive weapon like that to defend 3 people.

No matter what the aircraft, it is still hard to fire at a moving target while going Mach 2

On Delta Halo I'm sure you can climb on top on the Pelican that drops off the tank. Also if you press X and hold it a couple of times the Pelican rocks back and forth.

If you go to the outskirts level and jump on top of the buildings you will eventually come to where the pelican lands to pick up johnson!Jump from the building onto the pelican and look in the cockpit!

You can get ontop of it on Outskirts and look inside, also in HALO: CE you can get on top when Forhammer picks you up in The Silent Cartagropher.

Carrots.

Dude, its a game, it doesn't have to be realistic, your not complaining about giant eight foot tall aliens and plasma rifles, so why complain about the turret on the warthog!?

Now, maybe you did find supposed Air Intakes... but how do you know that they are air intakes? Oh, and if you didn't notice, the Pelican from the first Halo isn't the same as the one from the second.

Oh, and the word MINI and GUN aren't the answer to everything.

I'm sure there are pilots in there. They just didn't plan on people jumping from roof to roof and onto the Pelican and looking in. There were more important aspects they were concerned about.

The increased firing rate would unbalance things. It's not realistic, but the machine guns on the pelican and the warthog can kill people fast enough as it is. Firing as fast as a minigun, the turrets would take people out in less than a second.

And it would make the game to easy!

Yeah and also in the manual it even says that the gauss turret is made for destroying vehicles. The turret is for ground troops.

Think about it this way, the warthog's gun is pretty powerful and devastating at ~900rds/sec imagine how unfair it would be at 4000rds/sec. Theres a reason Bungie made it the way it is.

  • 07.02.2006 8:38 PM PDT

-blam!- Rage

Listen:

For one, it is a game

Two, if you noticed there are 3 barrels on the chaingun on the Warthog and I think it is the same for the pelican. And what, how many does the minigun have 6 or 8 I think.

Bungie did a great job on the game and if it were 4000 rounds a min. that thing would be god.

Seriously, the warthog turret takes about five seconds, while a minigun takes like one, basicly, your -blamed!- if you see someone in the warthog, and they'l just pump you and the aiming is fas ttoo so you can't run or hide you'l just get pumped with bullets, here is a dramatic re-inactment of a Minigun incident:

Spartan walking round.

Spartan enters warthog.

Spartan sees some guy walk around a corner.

Spartan pulls the trigger on the minigun and releases it.

500 bullets hit the other guy.

Other guy: AJUBIHAFGAWNYAGEWERYAWOYU PSSTTTTTTT AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Yeah, I would love to play matchmaking with people who stay near the warthog while the guy on the mini owns my team giving us no kills. Good fun right there.

The Bungie staff know the cyclical rate of fire for mini-guns.

The problem with having that high a rate of fire is that each bullet in Halo is considered it's own object with it's own physics. Each bullet is basically a character that moves and collides with you to determine if you are shot or not.

What you are effectively asking the Halo engine to do is massively increase the number of items it must track. I'd rather have the lower firing rate and the higher damage in order to lend more resources to other things like, for example, enemy AI.
