Oh no! She sealed her fate by eating her whole life away!

Don't care.

This thread is epic...

Ok to all the people saying it was her fault for being fat, grow up. You know nothing about her or the way she lived. You make it sound as if her condition was similar to that of a smoker or drug addict which is really quite ignorant.

On topic though, it really is her fault for refusing medical care in Hungary. The husband is clearly taking out his anger on the airlines and will probably not win in the lawsuits. He should just give it up and put his wife to rest.

Call me Rdog, not RdOG or RdOG1507. I made that username when I thought it was cool to use alternating capital and lowercase letters...

I have a similar problem. Airlines don't allow oversized packages.

I asked on Recon's thread, and I will ask here: Why didn't she seek medical help in Hungary? I was just there, and they have as good of hospitals as we. So why didn't she see a doctor when she needed to? The airline does bear some fault here, as she was disabled and some concession should be made for a disabled person, but come on, she could have got help in country.

Communists were gonnna get her brah. If she even appeared at the hospital, straight to the gulag she would go.

You guys DO know that Hungary hasn't been communist since the 90's, right?

Look at this username, Charlie.

OT: No offense, but KLM, Delta, and United all tried to set her in a plane, and none of them were able to. If you're that obese, you cannot fly.

  • 11.27.2012 11:37 AM PDT

No its really her for letting her self go so much, 407 pounds? That's -blam!- ridiculous.

Her husband says the airlines were responsible for her death, since they did not make the effort needed to get her the accomodations she needed.
I bet that was the reason

Her fault for not controlling her weight, I'm not going to sympathize for someone that screwed themselves over.

Protip: It was sarcasm

Protip #2: The major issue the man has was that they had no problems flying her over there. She didn't swim to Hungary from America - she flew Delta. They couldn't get her on a return flight on the same airline.

She lived gluttonously.

Per Audacia Ad Astra

If her genetics didn't take 50% or more of the blame, it's her fault.

Eh, I find it hard to empathize in this situation. She wasn't going to live that much longer. =/

This. I really don't feel bad for obese people. They don't watch what they eat, they have horrible meal plans, and they whine and complain that it's genetics and going to the gym and lift is too much work.

See what I did there?

In most cases that's how obesity arises, but there are individuals who are poorly dealt a hand of bad genetics and obesity is simply out of their control.

[citation needed]
Metabolic rate barely varies in the population.

Even two people on extreme ends of the metabolic scale is extremely rare and will only vary by the equivalent of one cheeseburger.

Don't blame genetics or metabolism for fat people. Fat people are fat because they eat. That is it.

Really? I'm sorry I didn't know you were her close personal friend. -.-
In all seriousness, you're probably right and she may have deserved what happened. The point I was trying to make is that you all just assumed it was her fault for being so huge. Clearly she made some poor choices, but it's foolish to assume you're superior to her without even knowing her.

It's was mostly the woman fault. If she haven't eat so much then none of this would have happen.
You sir are an idiot. Stop bashing fat people Flood. I didn't know people of the same kind like to bash others like they do here.

  • 11.27.2012 11:57 AM PDT

Watch out. If I post in your thread, chances are it'll die. I've been cursed, and if I kill your thread, I'm sorry.

To the people saying it could be genetics, you can't put all the blame on genetics.

If you really want to, you can put yourself in shape. For those that don't know, fat is taken from the whole body, not just the area exercised, so even if you can't run/walk you can still lift weights or do upper body exercises to help burn fat.

You can also try to eat healthier foods. Because bigger people have bigger bodies, they require more energy to maintain that, and if you lower things like bad calorie count (yes, there are GOOD and BAD calories) losing weight isn't as difficult as it seems.

This world wants to drag you down... And the weight, that guilt they want to hang around your neck, you don’t have to carry it one more step. You think they won’t let you rest, but it’s not up to them. It never was.

I'm curious as to how she got there in the first place, honestly.

But it also found that there were obese people who were obese not because of what they ate, but because their genes. They ate healthy and exercised when they could, but they would either get fatter or stay the same.

Metabolic rates differ. But physics can not be defied - you can not create matter spontaneously. The formula is simple:

Eat more calories than you burn = gain weight. Eat less calories than you burn = lose weight.

One part of the formula varies slightly on genetics (your metabolic rate). As stated, that variance is incredibly small. The largest part of the formula is also the one under the person's control - what they eat.

Posted by: lI Maverick lI
A second case was determined a gene where the person literally could not stop eating, even against their will, or when they were full.

Such cases exist - but are obviously an extreme minority. Hundreds of millions of Americans are considered clinically overweight or obese - you can chock up rare diseases to an incredibly small part of that population.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

The fact that she repeatedly tried (and failed) to fly with 3 airlines (Delta, KLM and Lufthansa) should have made the point that "you're not getting out of here soon" and she and her husband should have sucked up their worry/distrust of Hungarian healthcare and at least gone for treatment.

Or taken a short couple hour train ride to Italy/Germany/any other EU member nation with obvious high quality healthcare.
