Cool stuff

Just when we think we understand a lot, nature shows us we know next to nothing.

Ah what the -blam!-? And just when I thought I was beginning to properly understand everything...

The HELL you are! These are precious gifts to me and they are non-transferable! How dare you regift my challenge prize. You might as well hock a wedding ring for beer money. -DeeJ

That's awesome.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.” – Psalms 46:1-3

RIP Logan ~B.B.

I wonder how many people on Earth that truly understand that. I am not one of them.

I read an article a while back that stated if LHC were to start playing around with the stuff Quarks are made of that they could start a chain reaction that would lead to Earth being converted to that material. It may not be so far fetched.

Interesting historical note: When the scientists at the Manhattan project tested the first atom bomb, one of them had done the math and deduced that there was a small chance that the bomb could ignite the atmosphere of the planet and kill everyone. They tested anyways.

On the Left

Godshatter: I can go all the way with someone without being attracted to them.
CamCamm: How does that work?
Godshatter: I'm easily aroused by anything that moves. It's a curse.
Brain says 'No, that's ugly', body says 'ugly is fine with me'.

I am a particle physicist myself and I can tell you that that article you read is pseudeoscience at best and utter nonsense to tell the complete truth.

Nice topic, by the way - I might have a read of that paper (well, the abstract and conclusion) cited in the article later.

Sure buddy, sure. MIT posts pseudo-science. Please allow me to bow to your superior intellect...lol

Unless you can find me the article, then I highly doubt that MIT would post something suggesting that the LHC could cause a "chain reaction between quarks which could lead to Earth being converted to a certain material".

They didn't. I referenced 3 articles. The one above, the quark one, which if you had the reading comprehension you could see the sarcasm dripping off of it, and the Manhattan project one.

But I can see that you would miss reading comprehension being a particle physicist and all. Say hi to Gordon Freeman for me.

I'm not good with sarcasm, especially when it is posted on the Internet where, well you know, there are no voice tones to detect said sarcasm. Anyway, I'll ignore the petty insults given that they mean nothing to me - if you want to doubt my claim that I'm a particle physicist, fine, I don't really care. However, one must understand that if you post something which sounds ridiculous (like a reference to an article suggesting the LHC could destroy Eadfh) and the sarcasm is not detected then a scientist such as myself would inevitably respond to such nonsense.

By the way, you didn't think I was talking about the article linked to in your OP when I said "pseudoscience" did you? I'd think it was pretty clear that I wouldn't call an MIT article "pseudoscience".

People...
